Electronics failure diagnosis for dummies; which bits have exploded and/or had the smoke escape from them?

I always say you don't need to know how something works in order to be able to fix it: you just need to know what a fault might look like How many on here can sort out all manner of problems with cars without more than a basic understanding of what's going on?

After looking at the manual today it would be appear that I'd misread it. 60PSI is what is needed but the machine cannot take an input of more than 120PSI

HaHa! You got that right. It also made me get a mouthful of foul tasting coolant priming up the water pump this afternoon so maybe it's for the best if it leaves for a new home ASAFP.

I actually wouldn't have a clue where to start with one of those - a synergic MIG for Ali - looks and sounds far too complex for me by a long way.

You really shouldn't knock it till you've tried it. There isn't a sensible argument against synergic mig that holds any water at all. And I bet you I'd work anybody out of sight in a std vs pulse mig on productivity and consistent weld quality. It's just so easy with the right kit.

I'm not knocking the kit, buy my own ability (or lack of). I wouldn't have a clue where to start on getting the best out of such a machine.

Today I acquired these emergency lights....they charge up once plugged in and come on in the event of a power cut. ...not really sure what I can do with em apart from wire up in the shed..but they were for nothing. ...

And like much of the stuff we collect and hoard, they`ll be handy one day. Or when we got asked when will it be finished, answer Friday, ( dont tell which one though) so yes,handy one day-- which one, god only knows.

although thinking about it I used to rescue and also strip emergency lighting for the rechargeable batteries, they were U2 equivelant then.

Fair point.
So far, in my work (farming) I've never really had proper training on new machinery supplied yet. It's always get on and do the job or 'it's like your old one' - except no it isn't...
I forget that other industries do things differently.
