Random second hand shop, over the boarder in Wales.
A series of box's, marked up unknown tools.
No details.
Pick up, guess and make an offer.
I chose one, had 4 to chose from.
This one made a decent "rattle noise".
The moneis raised went to:
Guide dogs for the Blind.
Air Ambulance.

That’s not mange is it? Really nasty mites.
Depends on the grade, some of the softer grades and it is almost impossible to turn without some sort of coolant, other harder grades just chip away nicely if you get the feeds and speeds right.
Is there any way to determine the grade? I doubt there is for the home shop hobbyist, but this worked superbly at any rate, I just used a piece of HSS I had ground, actually for steel but it worked superbly on this aluminium.

The Ali was free, unfortunately the V8 brake conversion was a bit more spendy
