may I ask were you got the cage/pen from, my springer is having the exact same operation next week and at the moment all I have is a 30" crate that she will go absolutely daft in after an hour let alone a month,

I ordered a child's pen from eBay and it should have been here today but I was informed it would be Friday so I called my Sister and asked if she had one I could borrow. Afraid I have no idea where she got it, knowing her it was probably on Gumtree or something
This is the one I have ordered, not sure if it will be high enough for Max and more than likely will be too low for a springer but..

I remember them. No drill involved, you banged them into the wall with a hammer until you were blue in the face. Nothing as fancy as hammer drills back then.
They were bloody awful. Thankfully, by the time I was old enough to use tools properly, the hammer drill was extant and those horrible things there were consigned to the scrapyard, where they belonged.
There is only one thing I can think of to say in their favour - if you really, really had to, you could make a hole when the power went off.

As a kid I remember my dad buying a Rawl plug jumper and three jumper bits , some lengths of Rawl plug hollow fibrous plugging in different sizes for No 4. 6, 8, 10 & 12 screws along with some asbestos wool & cement
All purchased as a single buy from a newspaper ad in the Lincolnshire Echo around 1954.

We lived in a house that was built in the mid 1700's built from bricks made from clay out the local clay pit in a farmers fields some 500 yards away
The quality of the bricks was very variable,from some that were soft enough to knock a zinc roofing nail in to others that were black glass or blown black & blue ...…. almost glass with stinking sulphur smell . Some of the hard ones were red on the outer face but if you broke one in half it was blue black through the rest of it .. they were totally impervious to water & heat , most of the chimneys were built out of them .

One day He was trying to put a set of three eight foot long shelves to make a book case .
He used a spirit level to carefully mark a line on the wall then with mum at one end & him at the other they pulled some button thread taught to get the extended line, which he then marked on the wall .

Satisfied it was level he started marking the verticals and marking off the mounting screw holes . The first few screw holes were tapped in quite easily every three or four light taps & turn the tool holder 1/4 of a turn ( with me & my sister counting for him ).
By hole 15 or so things got tougher & tougher he changed hammers from a 20 ounce ball pene to a 24 ounce cross pene lump hammer ( the coal hammer ) .
Things were not progressing very well , suddenly he gave the jumper tool a decent heavy whack with the coal hammer and hey presto the brick flew through the wall into the front room taking a massive lump of plaster with it . That didn't go down very well with mum I can tll you.
by the time he'd got all the other holes in place several were oversize pits requiring him to use the asbestos wool & cement to surround the fibre plug & hold it in place , he'd broke two of the jumper tool tips .

The good news is that the book cast was able to support a full set of 16 large hardback books containing the works of Charles Dickens , A full set of the works of Shakespeare all mums nursing books half a dozen DIY of the era books and all manner of popular pre & post second world war fiction novels , a couple of encyclopedias a bible and two massive dictionaries .

You'd have to be looking to use chemical anchors & high tensile studding to get that level of weight bearing support these days .. if you could find a wall strong enough to hold it .

I also acquired two wheels and two braked castors for the trolley I am building for the EWM, might save myself £3k and weld them to the dog instead.
Anyone know what type of rods I should use for welding to a Collie?

Jig saw, I was told it wouldn't cut. The blade was blue and had teeth missing. Even the laser is out of line. £2




Tenon saw, needs a clean and a re set of the teeth. 18TPI so a very fine tooth saw.
Plus a 3/4 brass valve. £1 for the pair.
