blue tack.
good for holding screws on the ends of screwdrivers, too.
depends what you're putting the screws in.I prefer grease for that - like when you need to keep your fingers under a part you can’t see with a small nut resting on them, ideal.
That's what I used in the end, a bit of copper brake pipe! I'd already bent the stick magnet before I'd realized the nut was stainless.A length of copper wire with the end formed into a hook would have been my choice there. Hook into the nut centre and pull it out.

Bad day for exhausts today! I burnt my arm on it locking the bike up when I got home
Here's the culprit.

Picked up this £400 stainless steel hot water tank on the way to pick up a load of plastic drums I stashed behind a hedge, the drums were gone but I'm still winning.
Today I acquired, this;

(Beloved but very tired Fluke 10 for scale)
I won't make you guess, it's essentially a giant 5K linear potentiometer. The did extends about 225mm and according to the datasheet is repeatable to 0.01 mm.
Oh, and it's brand spankin' new, old stock, cost me £20 shipped. The new price is, err, significantly more.

If I can find another cheaply (Or any position sensor really, a glass scale or an LVDT would be nice) I'll try to make a DRO for my lathe. There's a broken Amazon Kindle Fire around here somewhere that would make a lovely display.
Testing it with a very lazy arduino sketch;

Those two decimal places are misleading, with the Arduino's 10 bit ADC it's got a 0.25mm resolution. I'll need to buy a 16 bit external one to get the claimed precision of the transducer.
I also need to find a plug for it, interestingly it's the same connector as the CEME water pump I bought off Richard (Different pinout sadly). I think he had a thread last year struggling to find a plug for it so not sure what I'll do about that.
As long as the price is right (), anything would do me. Even a 25mm one could go on my Herbert drill.I may have one, not sure how accurate or even how long it is but will have a look when I get home tonight(if I remember )
Ha ha you miserable students are always looking for something for nothing, suppose you need to save up for the important things of student lifeAs long as the price is right (), anything would do me. Even a 25mm one could go on my Herbert drill.
