Today i acquired 30 kg of dry dog food for free.

I "found" these two tools on Thursday. I was magnet fishing.
I was in that part of the day, to early to head for home and to late to start another job.
So I pulled up and dropped the magnet over the edge of the bridge. Took a good few drops and throws. Lots of nails, bolts and other detritus. But an hour in. This was what I had to show;



That's after I had washed them off and gave them a spray with WD40.





That's the hammer cleaned up and lacquered.
The spanner is on the bench, somewhere.

How I got it, after removing the concrete.



The shaft I turned up. It is American Hickory, turned down from a blank on a friends copy lathe. Will I ever learn it is cheaper to buy new?



Head cleaned up by electrolysis, vinegar to remove the remains of the concrete and finally power tools.



Both ends were harden and tempered, there you can see the steam after I quenched the end after tempering. It was then cleaned up again.



Fitted to the shaft.
The shaft was stained with "Light Oak". 5 coats applied with wire wool. The 8 coats of dark oak wax applied agauin with fine wire wool. The last 2 coats were applied with a cotton rag.




Ready to be used.
Sad part of this restoration was the markings were lost.

After fitting this for a customer i have acquired 4 very blunt, worn 10mm sds drill bits, some of the toughest abrasive concrete i have had the misfortune to drill into.

A warehouse I converted to living accommodation on jersey was like that on drill bits.
Slab was poured in large slabs using leftovers from a new runway being built.
Even the beaver breaker struggled with i it.

Oh yes, I paid full price for the 3 "Dremel" style wire brushes.

What a waste of my money. the longest they lasted was 47 seconds.

I use my Bosch oscillating multitool at work for cutting in dry lining electrical back boxes in plaster board, it's a god send.
I used to have to stab the wall with a plaster board pad saw then cut the required shape out, not as easy as it sounds when you have to cut through a double layer of acoustic plaster board.

This is worth considering.

I am a VERY happy Vark.
I have at last received a large heavy box, delivered today by a nice courier. He even help me carry box into the front room.
Good thing as Mrs TYA is out.

But why am I happy?
Simple, I ordered this lot from an E Bay seller in August. That was the start of the saga. But brifly.
Seller dispatches them, within24 hours of Pay Pall being received. My Hermes collected the box. Lost it 3 times, returned to the sender as they thought that was the address they were being sent. Damaged the box. Returen damaged box, complete with boot stamp marks on the box.
The sender has bean in contact with me all through this and Friday using another courier sent them out again. They arrived today. Plus a free gift was included.

Here is what I got.




Decent Stanley plane, unused and just surface rust on the body.




Another Stanley, used, full of sawdust and rust on all metal the metal parts. All due to the sawdust absorbing damp air.
Plus a decent well made box.



Rebate Plane, again unused and just surface rust.



Unused Record Plough Plane. No rust here. Not even assembled.





Brand new Bull nose plane.

The courier today was wonderful. The sender a gentleman through out.
My Hermes were a shower of sh1t.

The planes were originally purchased for Men in Sheds, with their limited funds. Due to the delay I refunded the money out of my pocket.

I will asked if they want to buy them again.

Then I will slowly restore them, as needed. Or teach other members how to do it and see if they can get involved.

Save it for the Brexit hiccup, all you'll need is 100 oxo cubes and you can have a decent hot dinner with gravy at least once a day for about two months .
Skimp to one meal every two days and you'll still be alive four months later by which time many townies will have succumbed to starvation.

£5 for the grinder. It's a 110v one that some goon's put the wrong plug on. I'll rewire it tomorrow and see if it's dead or not. I only got it because I have a couple of boxes of 4" discs that came my way free a while back. N+1 seems to apply to grinders as well as bikes

The clamp screw and the ground anchor were 25p each. I'll see if I can find a use for the clamp somewhere. Maybe a bench hold down or something. The ground anchor will be used for chaining bikes up in the garage.
