Today I'm on route to go and buy the cheapest motorcycle I have bought.

Been told it's an absolute shed but it starts and runs.

Kawasaki zzr600 1995 on a p reg.
Been off the road since 2007 (done 3 miles since)

But it's £120.

And the boss has a buggy chassis in his barn see where this is going

If it needs tyres, chain & sprockets and brake pads it better be mint or it won't be worthwhile spending the money, so the buggy chassis would seem very inviting.

Why are some of the lots 'RFD trade sale only?'

They were guns or firearms with defects, to be fair it was things such as broken firing pin, slight play on the action, but as they have each gun checked prior to sale I guess it is to cover themselves, also if it is a section 1 you would need to have an open slot on your ticket or be a RFD to purchase.

Not really a fashionable bike when new. Now it would only make money being a scrambler build and that would cost more money. Rather than cut it up and weld where it touches. Then play.

I have bought it thinking it's an engine with bits attached so no loss if the rest is bin fodder.

RFD = Registered Firearms Dealer. As Lazarus said, could have defects or be out of proof or excessive headspace or could be "component parts" such as an action or a bolt or just a barrel. All of these things require either a separate "slot" or entry on your Firearms Certificate or you need to be an RFD to posses them. Many Auction Houses just don't want the hassle of the public buying these things so they mark them RFD only. A Karcher HD750 pressure washer for £14, when this was new back in 1985 it cost around £800! Connected it up to power & water & it's working perfectly apart from a leaking pressure gauge. It puts out 100bar at 11 l/m, enough for most jobs.

I was a service engineer for a Karcher dealer & IMHO this was the best cold washer they ever made. Although expensive it was simple & reliable with a top quality Siemens motor, probably why it's still working after 34 years! This was the last decent cold washer Karcher made before they started making them cheaper in order to compete with the cheap but good quality stuff from Italy.

The bonus is that it uses the same jet size as my current washer (an interpump) so I can swap hoses between them!

ime a big fan of the interpump and the cat pump...both unbreakable great buy that washer..

No mate. In very good condition. Am chuffed with it. It's 10ft long. And I estimate the weight to be around 4T .

less than 2 ton old machines like that are surprisingly light, now if that was a Holbrook b21 then it would be 4t plus

That makes 3 meggers I have, all working perfectly. Probably too many so the Record Minor will be up for sale soon.

I tried some G10 cutting compound on a cloth on the red one & it came up beautifully, the marbled bakelite finish looks lovely. Finished it off with clear wax.

Do you know much about these old meggers @Turbo I only ask as I had a need to run an insulation test this afternoon, and I suddenly remembered that I had one of these old vintage testers stashed away in the cupboard.

I’ve had it for Donkey’s Ages and I’ve never used it. Well I didn’t use it today either as it appears to be broken. The needle seems to settle wherever it wants to irrespective of what you do with the handle.

Have you ever had one apart? Is it worth trying to fix it? Are they repairable?

The meter in mine is held in with insulation tape, so it’s obviously had some ‘attention’ in the past. If there’re easy to fix I might give it a go.

Today was the first time I’ve ever had a use for it, so I don’t need it enough to warrant much effort or cash on the repairs...

They can be repaired.
Most issues are with the generator. If it has a "cutch" that can slip.

I use mine at work and the classic yellow handbag megger.

The clutch mechanism seems to be working fine. Well it sounds like it’s working anyhow. Just not getting anything on the meter.

May not be getting anything out of the generator either bit I’m not about to grab the leads to find out!

Does it have a switch on it. To swop from Ohms to M ohms?

Doubling back to post #14001, the hydraulic ram arrived today but I haven't opened it yet, too much else on with to get to it.

I was looking at the MachineMart website pic of their bench-top one, and when I enlarged the pic to check I will have everything I need it became clear that mine is going to be over-engineering in terms of strength of build materials used . My steel is possibly twice the thickness of theirs and the design of mine will be welded in areas where theirs uses bolts/screws. Never mind, mine'll be really strong...

The only thing I might splash out on are these. I know I could make them on the lathe but time and a supply of suitable round bar stock will be the problem We'll see........

No longer fitted in the grinder to be useful.

Used by hand to clean out the screw slots to take a screw driver and then used to remove the hard wax in the saw blade slots.

Waste no, want not.
