From Trabant factory in East Germany, to a skip in Ireland - I'd bet it's had a more interesting life than some people.

Mrs tbd is Hungarian and her dad was telling me about buying a trabant new , years ago. Apparently you went to dealership , paid your money and at **some** point in the next 18 months it arrived. He had done some work in the states and could pay with dollars and therefore was allowed to at least choose the colour

2 car boots today hunting for a specific item. But good company, she supplied the food and she also drove. Mrs TYA was having a lay in.
Apart from my rants about charity outlets it was a good day.





£20 for those 2, but both are in good condition. Rusty, but solid. The tank even has the original rubber bungs on.

I did argue about buying 2 and get one free.

I did convince her to agree.

This is the item the seller was selling, but in bits.
I have roughly put it together. It looks complete, all the nuts and bolts were there. Just the fuel line was missing.

It pulls overs, it sparks and it coughs when easy start gets a squirt or 2 into the carb.

It gives a cleaner cut, as it cuts on the back stroke. They are not allowed to use a knife to score and break.

No it is not a mouse.
Just the clutch and throttle levers.

Do you know much about these old meggers @Turbo I only ask as I had a need to run an insulation test this afternoon, and I suddenly remembered that I had one of these old vintage testers stashed away in the cupboard.

I’ve had it for Donkey’s Ages and I’ve never used it. Well I didn’t use it today either as it appears to be broken. The needle seems to settle wherever it wants to irrespective of what you do with the handle.

Have you ever had one apart? Is it worth trying to fix it? Are they repairable?

The meter in mine is held in with insulation tape, so it’s obviously had some ‘attention’ in the past. If there’re easy to fix I might give it a go.

Today was the first time I’ve ever had a use for it, so I don’t need it enough to warrant much effort or cash on the repairs...

The needle on those float randomly until you wind the handle & send power through it - it really confused me when I bought my first one. So if it's still floating when winding the power isn't flowing through the leads.

They are relatively simple inside, just the generator, some resistors, diodes & the needle mechanism. Easy enough to check continuity with a multi-meter & you could check if it's putting out volts if you have a 240v range, just wind the megger very slowly.

The usual way was to get the apprentice to hold the leads, but it only works once per apprentice.

Oh I don't know about that, I reckon I know a few that would have forgotten after a few minutes.

I’ll give that a try - thanks for the tip. The needle does indeed float randomly.

Found today a gurt blowlamp while having a turf out, must hold a gallon of paraffin and stands over a foot tall. I think this must have been my fathers because I dont remember buying it
