Check the fuel pressure, I’ve had problems with several common rail engines with exactly the same symptoms. Changing the fuel pressure regulator on the end of the fuel rail has cured them . Some diagnostic equipment can give a live pressure reading
but you may well have a fault code for low fuel pressure . Main agents are likely to try selling a complete fuel rail but some fuel specialists can sell just the regulator , helps if you have a fuel rail part number found on the rail

Put a cheeky bid in on a job lot of new in the box oddsnsods and won it, the three in one was dismantled because the old boy that had it couldn't move it but its complete

A swager, 20ton arbor press, flat bar bender, three in one has a bit of surface rust ( roller,crop and bender) and a small vice. £260 for the whole lot

It is the brushless fuel model, cheapest when I bought it was Anglia tools but the price does fluctuate a bit. There is a model with a brake on it for an extra 20 or 30 quid but I went for the M18CAG115XPD-0 18V bare tool without brake plus a separate 5AH battery from the same place.

Today I acquired this for a fiver at the boot fair:

Works perfectly, nice and smooth and quiet but I was particularly pleased to find that actual model because last year I bought a nearly-new one so I could rob the rotor and stator out of it to repair a Biax scraper for someone. They only wanted the internals (the green biax uses a Metabo motor) so I got left with the rest of it in a nice shiny box:

So this evening I stripped down the £5 one I bought and put the armature and rotor into the new housing from last year. Now I have a nearly brand new, perfectly working Metabo jigsaw in the box - for a fiver!

I most often come back empty handed TBH except for dog bones from the pet food stall because I'll only bring back stuff I think I'll use.
Sometimes I'll get a few rolls of packing tape, got a pile of reinforced tape once for a pound a roll. Been three times this year now, the first time I got a dozen 1m long SDS drills for £3 each second time came back with nowt and this time got the jig saw.
If nothing else it's a nice couple of hours out walking the dog.

Yesterday I acquired the urge to sort out all the screws that were hanging around in various drawers, jars, buckets, take away trays etc. I inherited a load of screws from my dad, loads of brass and steel screws, mostly slotted head which look better than cross-heads if they are visible.

Here's about half of them that need sorting, I've started on them.

Here's round head steel slotted nearly sorted

I've already done all the countersunk and round/pan/raised head brass, they are already filed away here, the rest will be soon.

I've already got all the cross heads in there plus loads of stainless and BZP set screws, bolts, washers, springs, self tappers from M3 to M12 plus quite a bit of imperial plus rivnuts, captive nuts, t-nut/bolts, plugs, rivets, roll-pins, circlips etc..... The bigger stuff is going in some old metal drawers I bought a couple of years ago.

Sounds a bit anal but I keep moving this stuff around the workshop rather than sorting it once and for all, this way I might be able to find what I need and make horizontal surfaces available for more junk

Get a brew, get the music on and just do an hour a day. It will soon be done.

Bugger, I just found a 5 litre tin of various fixings and a jam jar of electrical screws and self tappers, I think I'll call the kids in to help, it is end of term holidays

Elliot progress no2. Has the back gears that are really handy. Very heavy but designed for plenty of stick. The chuck I have know ideas. It's a keyless one.
