I know you all like a vice, so here’s one I picked up this morning. First visit to the local carboot for a long time, but we were passing so dropped in. It looks a bit rough, but it’s actually in great mechanical condition, very little wear and the jaws are near perfect.

£10 I just need to decide why I need another vice that’s all.

Anything that states made in England in my eyes has to be worth more than £10.
Saves someone buying a Chinese copy and giving a quality tool another lease of life.

@Ruffian definitely, I know I don’t need more vices, but these nice old ones are such good quality compared to what you get today and at the prices some people ask. We had a couple of the later record 1 ton vices here for years, I think they came from B&Q, never abused, but the one would slip if tighten too much and the other just got replaced when I set up my workshop.

Back in January I was given this.
A Record No6 plane, broken handle, simple fix.
Missing blade, money fix.

No it will not.


I pulled this wooden plane from a charity shop today.
But.................




But I wanted the blade.


It is a perfect fit and match.



The cap iron is shot. The blades need a bit of work.

Thought I would try one of these out just for the giggles, my one came from China and only cost a couple of quid, I expected an uncontrollable death trap and a trip to A & E but it was the opposite, I zipped up a pallet for firewood in seconds, and made some accurate cuts in 6 mm ply, the only drawback was the sawdust that covered most of Buckinghamshire this afternoon.

^^^^was cutting slabs 2 weeks ago i looked like a snowman after the first cut its silly as should use water but as i ever make 3or 4 cuts i cant be bothered with the clean up

Got a minor haul from the boot fair today. . 41/46 King Dick spanner, plastic faced hammer 50p, tin of steel pop rivets 50p and some discs and blades.

Best item by far is a nearly new 18" Rigid Stillson - for £1, they are £55 new.

I went along with @Pete. this morning and got a nice little haul myself. I think I spent about £6. Then I spent a peaceful hour sitting in the garden cleaning them all up.

What a pleasant way to spend an Easter Sunday!

a №7 hand plane - finally! after 4 years of trawling car boot sales for one i could afford.

its not marked with a maker, but seems well made, and quite old - not a silverline! - and has a stanley blade.

its going to be used, not as a collectors item so well happy.
especially for the price.

While my Wife and I were washing our vehicles today, I acquired a nasty cut to one of my fingers from the plastic wheel cover on my van. First time I used the Germolene Liquid Skin product mentioned in another thread recently. Stings like a m***** ******* initially, but then no pain after about a minute; great stuff for sure.

I have had no 7 bailey, stanley for many years ,good news for you , the square cornered blade (@ the non cutting end) indicates a sweetheart blade a polish of the back of the iron might show the lamination of the steel,will take and hold a super edge, since Igot mine I have never used my smoothing plane .

Have used super glue on a couple of occasions in the past, but this Liquid Skin forms a patch or type of scab. The wheel cover took a chunk out of my finger rather than a slice which could be glued back together.
