What kind of coal do you reckon they were using it on, in order to break that bit off the round end?
Welsh steam coal?
Yup found it last month@eLuSiVeMiTe
You have a floor, I've got one somewhere.
Looks too irregular [to me] to be that. Aren't they generally on the block, too? [genuine question ]
I like how you phrased that, as if it wandered in off the street, unsolicited.
bet your lass loves u all the stuff you bring homeThis showed up today.
Yes @slim_boy_fat they all sneaked into my hands, with no bidding by me.

Another oddity from my mound of random tools.
A Safe-D-Speeder, you put it in a drill and grab the black section which I’m guessing allows planetary gears to spin inside and move the lower chuck as a slower speed.

But, apart from the dull stuff was some almost interesting bits.

A "Coal Hammer" There is the remains of a sticker on the shaft, but the details are long gone. Can just make out on it:
"GLAND."
Plus;
"COAL H."
So shaft looks original, need to have a new wedge and a clean up.
A Quarry Man Chipping/ dressing hammer.
It has had a hard life.

Now a days get used to chip mortar from old bricks to reclaim them.

Pitted, rusted, mangle cutting edge.
Loos on the wrong shaft, old glue on the shaft. a screw for a wedge.

Any one now the RAL paint code or the nearest modern paint colour?
or slip into B&Q and get their orange colour slips then go hunting in a model making shop with the card that's the nearest match & see if Humbrol etc do the small tins of enamel paint for match .
When I was with the UN I was presented with a pneumatic oscillating valve lapper that had lost its oscillating ability to see if it coild be repaired I stripped it and found a nice greased hard but dried out so as to be useless replaceable leather flap that acted as the paddle to catch the air in and move the spindle .Never seen one before, reminds me of the lazy mans valve grinder gadget with a rubber sucker on the end, drill powered valve lapper. @Stueeee will remember them
Bob
Edit: They still make them
Picked up these 2 tonight, first is a 3ph motor with a motovario variable speed gearbox and a right angle gearbox.

Ral 203 to 208 ( Google RAL colour chart ) or take it to an industrial paint seller most of them have a computer photo colour matching service these days .
I took a 1/2" flake that was put on the wall 10 years ago , it had changed due to sunlight & weathering ..they matched it bueatifully on their machine you can't see where the repair was made. They " might" be kind and give you the nearest colour they sell or slip into B&Q and get their orange colour slips then go hunting in a model making shop with the card that's the nearest match & see if Humbrol etc do the small tins of enamel paint for a match .
If you lived close to Leeks at Cross hands on the next western roundabout A48 near Mc Donalds ( 3 miles past the west end of the M4 ) you'd find an amazing range of oil & enamel paints as well as rattle cans .they make matching colours in oils too . . that said take it to a motor factors & see if they can help with a rattle can of RAL 208 orange .
