Attempted to bid on quite a few pieces in a local “collective” auction but they soon went above what I was willing to pay.

Look on bay of flea bay, gum tree and local second hand shops, antique canters and they do turn up.
The price is set not only by age and condition. But if they have been seen on one of the many TY shows, they the price gets silly.
Find out what you want and what you want it for, what you plane to do with it. Plus price of fixing it.
Then look on line for parts, I know of 2 places what are good for parts.
But some parts are as rear as hens teeth

When you re-wire it, check the data plate to see if it is double insulated.
If it is you will see no earth wire. But the capacitor what is in the handle is blown be careful. The correct rating is available, but they can be a big to big to fit.
If it has a earth connection, check that the whole body is at the same potential, you can one find a part may be live.

You talk to me as well if I’m intelligent enough to understand what you’re saying. Although I think I can translate it to wear thick rubber gloves and Wellington boots when using the shears and just to be on the safe side make sure my wife is stood next to the circuit breaker and I’ve not used her recently.

What a steal! Utilities vehicles usually have a hD chassis, which is double skinned and rot due to moisture trapped between the plates.

I speak from experience.
I have seen so many old B&D re-wired by people who thought they knew what they were doing.
Plus I got a belt from a B&D circular saw, the base plate was live. I said "Oh Dear me."
A lot of B&D stuff was converted to "Double insulated" in the 1980's to comply with a possible change in power tools being used on sites.
Also the old rubber cable can break down, not the kind of a break down a mug of tea and a biscuit will help with.

Plenty of rot on this bad boy! But I'll know more next weekend when we get it shifted to my mate's workshop. If it's terminal rot and not worth repairing I'll strip the body and other parts down and concentrate on them whilst saving for a galv chassis. Bulkhead requires a good bit of work but it'll be alot easier to repair than the chassis. YRM will bw getting a decent order from me once I have it stripped down. My thinking is even if it gets a galv chassis It'll still be cheaper doing that than buying one with MOT etc seeing as it's cost me nothing to aquire

That wouldn’t worry me one bit. You have the base for a very cheap rebuild, since you got it FOC
Defo! been after one for a long time and knew this was sitting available. I reckon a rear 1/2 chassis and replacement dumb irons on the front and a couple of replacement outriggers and it'll be ok. Unfortunately the engine doesn't come with it, but not too worried as it'll be a while before it needs one
