Got a new Makita 5" grinder. 1450W, so not short on power. I wanted a "compact" grinder in the design of the 9" grinders.

That was one grinder I looked at. Also wanted one with the same ,”compact” design. Eventually, having been told by more than one local supplier,that they don’t exist,I settled on the one made by Fein. More powerful at 1700w and variable speed.I want to make a plate bevelling head for it....

I bought a 5" variable speed Metabo grinder/polisher & it has a very powerful motor too. It's a joy to use as the clever handles absorb any vibrations & with a decent grinding disc it really eats metal! The electronic governer means it runs at the set speed no matter how hard it's working.

Easy to sharpen, nice slow cutting action. Good for older people.

I got the De-ionised water from a local Car components place. Under £6 for 10lts.




Old fashioned garden sprayer. I think it may need a new washer, but we will have to see.


I have given it a good rub and it should polish up a treat.


Pipe soldering iron.
Heats up, but doesn't seam to get as hot as I think it should.
But the heads and various parts connected to the heads are very rusted.

We will clean them up and test when we can.

Yesterday I got a No5 blade and cap iron, I was told it was for a No51/2. Today I took it back and got the correct blade and cap iron.
