hmm step drill been thinking about getting one of them how much was that one? and let us know how well it performs!

They’re definitely a handy thing to have in the tool box. I don’t normally drill over 2MM thick steel with them and they do better in a pillar drill than a cordless but still ideal for the panel work I do.
That one was £18.75 on eBay.

Got hold of a few nice bits today in a local secondhand/antique/bricabrac shop.
One 4 1/2 for me, a 4 for a friends christmas present and the surform was a bargain, I've a bouple of other blades for it rescued from the metal skip at work from someone having a clear out of the workshop. The one that was on it is unused on one side and barely used on the other.

It is indeed, use one occasionally at work but I think I'll probably use it more at home. Quite happy to have found one, and for £8 I think it was.

Yesterday i acquired a Clarke 1210 Vacumn former, it ceased to work after being "serviced" by the schools service provider's contractor. Turned out that a critical part had somehow become "forcibly bent". So we got the blame. Anyway we had to buy a new one at vast cost from the same contractor (funny that) & the old one was skipped. Of course the fact that it was heavy was no matter because when something is free one gains the strength of ten ordinary men & it fair leapt into the boot of my car.
Just put a plug on it & the heater & vac pump are fine, now just got to extract the bent platen, straighten it, fit new seal & bingo!

An extremely poorly weigh cell, that no one is interested in replacing. I need to do a little investigation in to which tyre of cells are fitted as I suspect it could be a DIY repair, rather than waiting for Barry Nappers or Weightlifters to have a tech available..

Today I acquired these 2 x boxes of fish, less than a day from landing off the boat. 'Local' fish merchant covers the whole extreme North of Scotland in his refrigerated van - he's out ever day to different places, often doing several hundred miles, I know because I know the distances to most places up here. [ yes...I know he covers more than that e.g. on the day he comes to us. If he only came to Bonar, he'd do more than 100 to get here and home again. Naturally he visits lots more places when he's down this way]. His fish is so good that the local Spar shop buys from him, but as he gets to know locals who always buy from him he comes to your door, sounds his van horn and waits until they've all had a chance to buy direct from him. At least 4 immediate neighbours buy every week so it's worth his while [ I don't buy every week but I buy and freeze some. Failing that, e.g if I happen to be at Docs or hospital for regular clinics, I give my immediate neighbours cash enough to cover my needs and they will get for me so that I can collect it from them when I get home. . Definite advantages living up here near the moon as I'm pretty sure @4String and @cheb will attest Anyway, details of what I'd ordered - sometimes it's something he doesn't carry in the van as I'll explain after the pics

Well, the 2 boxes as shown contain a mix of what they call 'trimmings' we'd say 'offcuts' ] when they have these you find a good mix of e.g. haddock or most kinds of other fish including salmon, haddock, cod, smoked haddock, hake and inc shellfish like prawns, langoustine, occasionally oysters, scallops and when they can get them, fresh lobsters - it's all beautifully skinned, cleaned, and cut so as to provide fish pan ready, or whatever you want to make as in my case, for pies. If for whatever reason they don't have what you want on the van [some is seasonal, some they judge whether they can buy it at the fish market at a price where they're sure allow for their profit but they can be reasonably sure their customers will buy it from them. Sound business acumen, that. If they can't they tell us that it was too expensive at market. Actually some of us can guess by watching weather and even shipping forecasts for the local area - @Hood will know that the boats, sensibly, won't put to sea if they know it's going to be too rough for their boats to contend with ]

Eat one [or occasionally 2 portions, as seconds if it's particularly good as this has 3 advantages 1) saves on freezer space 2) It saves me deciding what I'm planning next day 3) it means I can chose when I want to eat and just whack the other in the microwave. having left it to slowly defrost in the fridge. I could set the m/wave to 'defrost' setting which I have done on occasion . Three minutes + one of standing time and job's jobbed.

Off now to read a couple of PMs and read some more of your input(s). Why no bed? Well, my phone was refusing to transfer pics to my "Camera Downloads" file - First thought? "Oh dear [filter bypasser ] I do hope the phone hasn't given up the ghost, after all I've had it for years now - it's the afaik the first smartphone to provide virtually all the Apple iPhone facilities but on Android which doesn't bother me in the slightest. It's a OnePlus1 which at the time you could only buy if you had an intro code, and you could only get one from an existing customer who'd bee in the queue ahead of you [more clever marketing plus it raised capital to develop/make more without resorting to massive debt burdens. . Iirc, I paid about £250ish which was then approx 50% of the Apple offering .

Afaik, they know they're now on version 7, 8 or even higher and now you can just buy direct ] It's still smarter than me as I've never bother to add apps but I had to investigate to see if it really was broken - I resorted to the age-old first step with all things electrical [even cars now], switch it off, leave it for a while and turn it back on again . I obviously managed to ensure it wasn't dead by resorting to that simple
expedient. Further searching & I found the cause as you can tell......

EDIT: and that mug will be treated to a dose of bleach soon, but it shows what black coffee is possibly doing to your insides....

Anything to do with seafood and the top of Scotland works for me .

Can't wait to get up to Kinlochbervie next year for some of the most sublime diving in the UK, stunning scenery, solitude, and the chance to bag a scallop or two. Also looking forward to Monday as I have a 20 metre phone mast to install near Leith docks in Edinburgh. Aside from the inevitable chaos that a 25 metre long wagon and a road closure will cause, the site isn't a million miles away from Clark's fishmonger at Musselborough.

I predict seafood will be on the menu in the Empty Arms Hotel next week .

Just back from a shopping expedition to the great metropolis of Bishop Auckland with all that's needed to build a log store, after I relieve the greenhouse of its 8'x2' heavy duty pallet that will form the base.




And more importantly, some anchors to improve matrimonial harmony.




Apparently the aluminium canoe made a bid for freedom during the high winds on Thursday night, and made a hellish row on its journey around the front yard. According to a seriously terse text I got from OH, (ironically while I was sat on the M6 at Carlisle due to a wagon that had blown over...), if I don't fasten it down, she'll "... cut the ******* thing up with YOUR angle grinder, and after that I'll cut your b*****s off!!!"

Methinks a few minutes of my time drilling holes is time well spent . Think it was @spencer 427 that said "Happy wife, happy life" .

It's starting to turn cold mice are starting to look for warm shelter &easy food , food oils & taints off your hands transferred to handles , cables & books in garages are a tempting target for hungry mice. We had one or two in the filing cabinet at work
they ate every invoice number off the right hand top of two drawers of invoices. Alan a partner was screaming mad till I pointed out that him sitting at the desk eating his sandwiches and going through eh invoices was him putting nice food scents on the righthand top corner of the invoices .


Now you have noticed the mouse' handiwork work you will have a trail of pee & droppings that attracts every other mouse within 200 .
Poison the little beggars with Neo Sorexin ,CD or Gold & set some steel platform break back traps baited with bacon rind . Making the new door might make you feel good & the property look good but it won't stop the mouse/ mice at all . Only when the pee trail becomes old and permanently unused will the mice stop finding it .
