Today I got myself a katsu electric die grinder ready to do some work.

Ideal I thought, can abuse it tomorrow night and get some jobs done.

Only to realise it's a 6mm collet and all my burrs are 1/4. So that screws it a little bit.

Now I'm struggling to find a 1/4 straight collet similar to convert it, or I have to go get some 6mm carbide burrs which I dont want to do really as I like mine.

Buy a second collet and enlarge it to suit.

I have tried with the one in it, and its properly hard. Drill bit barely touched it and trying to hold it without it spreading is a giggle.

Hence wondering what others thoughts were.

1/4 inch round file and use the tool to spin the collet? Probably a stupid idea lol.

Mine came with two collets, a 6mm and a slightly bigger than 6mm but smaller than 1/4" It was supposed to be 1/4" though. I keep meaning to bore it out on the lathe with a small carbide boring bar, one day I will get round to it

Yep but then your in a scenario where
Has to be tight enough to grip the collet but
Not too tight to crimp it up too much.

Fine line and did look at trying that but haven't got my small round file here.
I may try it though.

Today I acquired long phone calls from my Sister in Oz and my best pal down in the East coast.

I had planned to do some soldering on the LEDs for my conch shell lamp because I can do that inside without braving the rubbish weather which was forecast and has arrived, but that never got started. There'll be another day and family & friends are more important than what I had planned.

Picked a Presto Whitworth tap n die set of eblag. Listed as "almost new, looks to be unused."

Well not quite, the 3.8 x16 is scrap, and the 1/4x20 has been swapped for a m6x1.








Edit; seller agreed to a contribution to the replacement taps

I have 3 Pesto sets, all of them have the same tap wrench.

Me was wrong.
On the original picture, the tap wrench looked too small for the cut out.
Hence my reply.
The ones I have had pass through my hands, the tap wrench was often missing or had been replaced.

Just a small thing, but has made a huge difference. Got this delivered on Friday:

I've spent a lot of time over the last few weeks (or possibly even months) swearing as a result of the antediluvian scale on my tape measures being on the side I wanted to use, so I finally did something about it and bought one with millimetres on all four edges. Been a much happier bunny all all weekend! I should have bought one of these years ago.

I use Stanley fatmax metric only. Haven't felt the need to have digits on the underside though. The tab extends all directions so easy to hook under something numbers up.

Only issue with metric tapes. Nowhere seems to stock them off the shelf. Always have to order online

Yeah, I agree with there being no need for digits on the underside. I have used them once since it arrived on Friday, but I probably could have turned it over and worked the other way up. I just got it as it was the same price as one without the digits on the underside.
