Ronan I aint got no drawing just something in my head. If you look as my first post I was going to build something totally different then pressbrake pointed me to get a Quorn book I had seen one on a website ages ago but forgot about it. Quorn looks good but very fiddly and there are a few things I couldnt do, like the spindle lift, so came up with hopefully a solution threaded rod lift, chucks are expensive so making a tool head to suit what I have

I might get back to you on the mount where the head sits if you prepared to make a scan of it. They do say the kit you get from quorn is, there is a hell of a lot of machining of the casting.that plan is for the quorn build for free

I like the grinding head you've made. I was going to convert a small Schaublin type miller to make one but its to good for that so I'll sell it to make some room
. I have just got a wolf grinder parts back that I had started to convert to a tool cutter grinder. I will copy the grinding head you made or something very similar to it and try and fit that.

I managed to get the motor mount done today, I had some 8mm plate kicking about
which I folded 90 degree spot on,
its a bit heavy, but on the plus side its not going to flex much, it funny how when building something, things change during the process, I was originally going to have the motor on its side, but as the metal was good and thick I decided to have the motor standing on it. I gave it a quick blast in the cabinet, it didn't really need the corner strengtheners, its just my over build mentality.
I machined some motor mount slots so I now have some adjustment to tighten the belt.
I did have concerns as to whether the motor was going to make it unstable or over balance but it is very stable,
I will eventually weld on the bass some fixings so I can bolt it to a bench or most likely another wheeled table, I do like things movable.
Tomorrow I should now be able to put some power to it.
I did make a boob though, as I bored out my only 4 inch pulley for the other motor, now it wont fit this motor, I have I may have a smaller one about, its not crucial though as this motor is twice the speed. Once know all is well I will make a cover for the motor and fit a switch.

I needed to make a 4 inch pulley so was eager for an early start today, after getting the fire lit and a brew on , it was time to get me furnace kit out, it took me a while faffing about, as first I couldn't find my fire suit
then, where did I put the drossing flux and degassing tablet,
its surprising how long it takes to get everything ready, have I got enough ingots
where’s me tongs, dam it my scrap ally is in the back of the container, and just general faffing, also this was my first attempt at melting ally. And its been a while since I started putting the kit together, and a bit of nervousness regarding the safety stuff.
I used my new Crucible its an A12 Salamander clay Graphite I have been saving it for this day,
after a couple more cups of coffee, and double checking and treble checking, I have everything to hand, I fired up the pot right get some ally in, dam and blast, I am almost out of gas, oh well use what there is then get another bottle up the garage, I hate changing bottles when there a bit left in, lets say I pre-warmed the crucible. Finally got a new bottle of gas all good to go only did one melt almost a full pot, these A12 crucibles are quite large, almost 3 litres full off the top of my head,
cleared the dross and degassed it, boy that looks good, I was amazed how liquidy it is, pored it out into the sized ingots I wanted.
Job done what a relief, sweating like a pig lets get out of this fire suit, get the coffee on, and relax and reflect. Inexperienced me though I was going to have more but, with only one pour, in the end Ive got a round block 150mm diameter about 100mm long, another round block about 125mm by 80mm that’s for my grinder motor pulley, and a mould I poured for another project.
Right lets get cleared up and everything packed away and get this block in the lathe to see what it like,
I have to say for my first melt I am very pleased.
I spent the afternoon turning the 4 inch pulley, I drilled the shaft size it to within 50 thou then crept up to what I needed by keep offering up the motor shaft and internal boring, in the end I got a real snug fitting pulley.
So far so good and there no vibration on the motor, tomorrow I will get the belt sorted and run it up.
In all the excitement I did forget to put some bead dies I had hardened a while back, in the furnace while it was hot that I needed to soften so that will get done another time.
All in all my fire suit worked brilliantly the gloves are amazing, and with all the checking and double checking then treble checking, one can never have enough safety checks I have had a great day. I know I could have bought a pulley for approx 20-30 quid and waited a week while they post it no doubt, but you don't have it today and you don't have fun get any experience doing it that way.
