A knackered hobby sized vertical milling machine, where the drive and control gear are useless.

All I need is 3 axis manual movement, so I can adapt it to take a router for wood work. I have a router table which is great for working on longer lengths of timber, but it always seems so primitive to be working "upside down" for smaller cuts when compared to what is normal for metalworking. My pillar drill bearings would appreciate it too.

An android headunit for my e60 BMW - car doesn't have Bluetooth capability which is nearly a necessity these days. It would also allow me to have a reversin camera and also access to the torque pro app to keep an eye on the engine temps amongst other things. (E60 doesn't come with a temp gauge!?!?!?!)

a "woodrat" or "routerboss" would probably be as cheap, and easier to source?

One thing I’ve always “wanted” ever since I used a one at a place I used to work is a Huron milling machine, very strange creatures but guaranteed to put a smile on your face when plowing a 2” end mill through a big block of steel.

No, but if you have a relatively simple code reader you can read live data and see the coolant temp [as well as LOTS of other stuff] - not very convenient if you're hurtling down an Autobahn of course......

Which iDrive unit is in yours? Mine is a very early one which doesn't even have nav in it

I would like to get hold of a fairly decent bench/floor hydraulic press, there is a 100 ton beast that lives on the farm that I use from time to time but its just not luggable. I keep scouring the fleabay ads for something that won't break the bank but nothing as yet

8.5inch screen CCC by the looks of it and it has nav and the aux in. I'm able to see temp with the laptop but it's not ideal for monitoring all the time. Same with a code reader as well. The screen will show it along with any others I require. Boost, oil temp etc
Big enough outlay at just over £300, but it's my birthday so feck it we only live once.

@anto If you could live without the reversing camera, consider one of these. I have one and they do work. And a helluva lot less than swapping out your head unit - which might then need coding? All too complicated for my simple brain.....

Have you discovered how to access the 'Hidden Menus' yet?

I haven't bothered setting it up with my smartphone - if it rings, I just ignore it.

A machine that says "don't buy those special spacers, washers, springs, grommets, gaskets, nuts, bolts, bar, plate, etc etc etc because you have already bought those and when you go to store them you will find the others in the special place where you put the last ones"

Also an intuitive storage system that reads my mind and opens the draw for the tool / fastener / whatever I am actually looking for!

It'll be a VERY steep curve for me, so don't be holding your breath - luckily I have a few cutters to practise on, once I work out how to (re)assemble the machine.

The guy who designed the Quorn wrote a very comprehensive book on cutter grinding. Should still be available from Camden Miniature Steam Services (if they're still trading). Not cheap but might pay off in saved time/cutters.

A lot of the info in it can be applied to just about any T&C grinder.

Last bearing I needed to press, I use my home made log splitter, and a block. Dual purpose...you see.

^^ He speaks with forked tongue. It's bought & paid for and will soon be arriving at 'Reid Towers'. I've ordered a new reprint copy of the original build/operating/parts etc manual from Amazon for £15[ish] delivered, so with luck and a following wind I ought to be able to get her up and working.

Gaz is right though, I do have too many irons in the fire...... , although I'm nibbling away at them , now that the weather's better and the daylight stretching.
