Tree climbing kit?

Today's naughty tree,
Willow that had cracked at the point it had grown from, its a fallen tree and the branch has grown up leaving a poorly anchored tree.

It's was a heavy back leaner leaning towards a house, winch was used to pull it, had to be careful as it would have happily pulled off the point that it attached.

Take the strain, face cut, relieve the sides. Final cut winch used to assist, too hard it will either barber chair or collapse of the attachment.

Here's the set up

fit perfectly in the hole, no damage to other trees.

My council job contract is up in a couple days. My "trainer" is only avail Saturdays and hasnt actually taught anything or taken any money yet - so I might ask him to do assesments instead.

Anyone have time to give me some training? I would value it (£££ not beer).

Climbing the ivy/ganoderma/honey fungus poplar. A friend showed me that it was still safe enough, he took the tops off. Also convinced me I need a baby saw. He has the ms151tc, I think Im getting an Echo 2511tesc.

He has lent me spikes. Plan to go back up tomorrow or sunday to start blocking it down. I might swap to 16" bar for this, not sure.

Quite like my harness but it has a major design flaw, I may have mentioned earlier in thread - the webbing connector has an edge that in my opinion should have been polished smooth before anodising. Instead it is slowly causing the webbing to fray.

I've had it 7 months but only had light use while doing my training. In theory still in warranty

Anyway with this in mind, I got another spare one last week and plan to polish the edges smooth before its first use. You can see the burr catches the light.

And the replacement, theres still a tiny bit of melty but think its probably acceptable.

You do seem to receive a lot of crap gear!

Well the harness is unique in that its one of the few made in the UK.. tho DMM and ISC gear is very good, neither of them make affordable tree harnesses - DMM just bought one out but its at the top end for price.


Anyway, how would you go about deburring the connection? The webbing obviously needs to be well masked and pulled out of the way. I am thinking emery paper start with p80 and go up to p800 by hand. I will wash the webbing afterwards so theres no abrasive/metal dust in it.

That's what I'd do. Seem to recall from my last harness course you can machine wash them?

Got told a great story about a lad who's harness had deployed with him in it. His MUM apparently made a lovely job of re-stitching it...

Shop has refunded the harness and told me to dispose of it. I would have much prefered a repair and still considering it.

The frayed webbing is not attached to the rest of the harness, it runs through 4 side rings and around the padding.
There are several similar harnesses where the bridge is attached by openable rings or shackles, like so:

So I am thinking to do the same - remove the frayed webbing and replace it with an off the shelf, 22kn rated nylon sling, pair of openable rings, and either sewn eye bridge ropes, or scafold knot tied static rope.

The question is, would a loler inspector be able to pass a harness that has had parts replaced with suitably rated, off the shelf parts of a different manufacturer - no parts will have been modified, no home stiched webbing...
