Tungsten Nozzles for Sandblaster

Ebay blast pot

Thanks for the info about converting the ebay blast pots to use the tungsten carbide nozzle sold on ebay, I was ready to bin the blast pot after using them crappy ceramic ones that came with it!
Its now working well, but I'm expecting the T-piece at the bottom of the pot to wear out anytime, does anyone know where I can get a replacement?

I've just used a standard 3/8 BSP malleable iron T-Piece (Female) with a 3/8 to 14mm hose tail for the blast hose. I've lined the hose tail with a piece of steel pipe so it lasts longer. (As per the first post).

The T-piece is showing no signs of wear, the problem with the original mixer was that the hose tail wore away, pity it wasn't a screwed in item.

I've just built a pressure pot, and used a Male PCL fitting, and after 7+ 25kg bags of Kiln sand it's still going strong. And at 50p-£1 each I wouldnt be bothered if it only lasted half that.

Do you mean as a nozzle or a pipe connector?

As a nozzle it would be a 4.5 mm orifice. I might try that on coarse glass grit, save crushing it as much.

I still reckon tungsten carbide works out cheaper in the long run, but if you stop using the PCL connector before it wears through you should be able to still use it for it's inrended purpose.

Put the worn ones on Ebay for £1.50 as "Increased bore size for special applications"

Do you use ones with 1/4 BSP threads? in that case you might save a bit of money by using a smaller nozzle valve.

No the ones with a barb to fit straight on to a hose, 10mm from memory, I dont even use any type of fixture to hold them in, so they real easy to swap out

Just tried this with some coarse homemade glass grit - works a treat, really shifted some horrible gungey underseal. May be a bit vicous for car panels though.

I'll stick to tungsten ones for delicate stuff, hopefully I'll eventually wear one out to 6mm!

OK if you have 10mm bore pipe, I use 14mm

New J-Blast may be a bit harsh, I've used worn. It depends on the finish you're going for. If you're going to paint or powder coat a rough surface is best, if you're going to bead blast you want a smooth surface.

I keep my worn grit seperately to use on allly if I'm going to bead blast it ultimately.

J-Blast is much cheaper, but it doesn't last very long (it's designated as single use) and breaks down into dust. If you're going to use aluminium oxide it's best in a cabinet or blast room so you can recover it easily.

It is? Why is that because of silicosis? I have 4 bags of block paving sand for my little sandblaster that were left behind by a crowd who did some paid work at my dad's place.

Yes. The risk is of silicosis. I was given some kiln-dried sand and it said on the bag "Not to be used for sandblasting on premises covered by the Factories Act."

I was chatting to a guy blasting a house and told me you could get fined for using it.

Apparently it's OK to use of large structures like bridges. I found quite a bit on Google but didn't save the links.

i have a large extraction fan on my cabinet which can suck more air out than the jet can deliver also an air fed blast helmet so no probs with using kiln dried sand as a hazard to health. its only ilegal if used in public places or employ sumone to use it as for personal use no probs

Presumably you filter the air before inflicting it on your neighbours?

It is NOT only illegal to use it in public places, it IS illegal to use it in blast rooms &c.

i havent got any neighbours to wurry about just a field at the back of my house which i own so no probs with dust from gear or noise from diesel compressor
