Aha thanks - that link is interesting - it shows the oil drippers over the gears (as they should be) - while on this lathe there are no drippers and no brackets - completely missing! My conclusion is that this was a modification that wasn't completed for some reason. All the gear lubing would need to be sorted out including bracketry (as well as the possible gearbox issue). It also explains why the lathe looks pristine - it never even ran in it's modified state... Pics below for comparison

I think even 200 is too high for me - it's really just a possible donor for something else eg the other spares or repair lathe that was linked but that's still a lot of disassembly and swapping of parts. Bed and headstock looks ok and some other parts and that's about it.....

Nope. They're a later addition. The holes are original. A few drops of oil in the holes, before use & occasionally during use, was the norm with lathes of the period. Drip feed oilers are the modification.

No they are not. Too many boat anchor myfords been on the market.

I’m a bit biased, of course. My lathe is a Raglan 5”. But I did check out several before I made my purchase (and after running a Raglan Mk ll Little John. Both far superior, IMO, to all but the myford 254.
