Walnut burr veneer

20 ish years ago I had a tour round the old Jaguar plant at Coventry. They had a workshop there where the walnut trim was made. Between the Walnut and the aluminium backing there was another thin layer of wood. Each layer was interleaved with a sheet of thermal set glue. The sandwich was them put into a hot press with shaped dies to give it the required curve.

I realise you will not have the kit to copy their method but knowing how it was done may help i some way.

Quite reasonable. Show me exactly which bits you want done and I will get you a price.

I prefer too go with veneer as my parts are relatively simple and mostly flat, was asking out of curiosity for future reference and other projects, ie. if a complex surface needs doing.

Wasn't there an old episode of wheeler dealer where he did this in a vac bag? Can't remember what adhesive he used though....I think it was the Jensen maybe....or that blue fiat with the fancy engine.

I remember that, I will do a bit of searching to find out. I also asked these guys (www.thewoodveneerhub.co.uk) what they would recommend, they suggested a polyurethane glue for veneer to aluminium.

I knew a guy who worked in the veneer shop there, he made me a switch panel for my RR, finish and quality were amazing.

Geez....can you imagine noticing that in the middle of the dash after it's all back together. And once you notice it that's all you'll ever see too!
