Walnut burr veneer

Well that's all the gluing and trimming finished, quite time consuming but very rewarding, I'll clear coat them once its a bit warmer.

Used a chisel and sandpaper to get the old veneer off the aluminium backing pieces.

I softened and plattened the veneerr with 8:1 water and glycerin, very cheap from Boots.

Once dry its ready for use.

I glued all the pieces the same way, coated with Gorilla glue.

Cling film to stop the pieces sticking to the clamping sheets.

Then a lot of trimming and sanding.

Then the final large shaped piece.

There's still a fair bit of effort to go in, clearing and flatting, I'll put up some more pictures when its done.

I think I have about 4 years worth of stuff to do on my to do list, I don't see it ever coming down to zero.

My wife also just got me a "learn German kit" on top, at the moment I can only order food and drink in German and then it all goes to pot when they talk back. That will be handy for all the extra trip to the Alps.

Any decision on what lacquer you will use. The best I found was 2k when I did my jag.

I was planning to use 2k polyurethane but 2k polyester has also been suggested as it goes on thicker and needs less coats.

I ended up buying Rustins Plastic Coating but haven't used it yet as its still too cold.

I plan to fit a hidden bluetooth amp in the car so no longer need the radio slot, I decided to fit the new seat heater controllers in there instead.

Welded up a support bracket.

Slots in like this.

Some aly sheet and a ~£3 hole cutter from ebay.

Veneer glued on.

Trimmed and a trial fit.

Hope it warms up in March.

I ended up using Rustins plastic coating, 3 coats brushed on the first day, then flatted and 3 sprayed on two days later, flatted again then buffed.

These two parts still need to be flatted and buffed.
