Water build up in da sander.

Is it normal to see this much condensation/water building up when using a da sander? The air valve under the operating lever is sticking open so the sander won’t shut off. I know this is a common problem on sanders because my next door neighbour had the same issue. I have my water trap bolted to my compressor tank. I used to have the water trap connection after a coiled hose. Maybe I should pipe my water trap away from my tank slightly as I’ve been advised to do, but haven’t got around to yet.

I have a constant battle with water / moisture for plasma. One of the cheapest and best tips I got was a inline cartridge water filter, and fill the outer of it with desiccant. Whole lot was £20 ish off the bay. When it’s wet, take desiccant out and bake in oven to dry it.

I need a proper dryer but this works well in mean time.

I was advised to fit a large bore hose between my compressor and water trap but I’m not sure how to go about it? All or part of the hose would have to be flexible as the compressor vibrates a lot and isn’t bolted to the ground. The water trap is always dry. Few drips of water come out of the compressor tank whenever I drain it.
I think that using the sander for long periods of time and the compressor running for long periods of time means lots of hot air is passing though the pipe. Then it’s turning to water up the air line. I did try to fit a spray gun water trap to the sander but there isn’t the room. The water trap is too wide.
This sander has already been back to Sealey once and had the air valve replaced. It’s better than it was the first time. Could just be another dodgy air valve or the valve casing has a fault.

I have some motor guard inline desiccant cartridges as well. Was going to put one of those on the sander but I wanted a visual of how much water was building up so I tried to fit the water trap instead. I’ll screw in one of the desiccant cartridges if it fits. Then I’ll look at getting a cartridge like yours. Where is a good cheap place to buy the plumbing for air systems. I have a lot of house plumbing stuff. Not sure if that would be any good? Thanks.

Do I just poke around in there? I always briefly turn my compressor on with the drain plug out to force a bit more water out of the tank. Air flys out of it so I think all is ok. Thanks.

I can't see how a faulty valve on the da is causing it unless it is letting air in somehow and some sort of venturi effect is causing freezing and condensation?
But seems unlikely.

How hot is the compressor getting?
Do you only get problems once the compressor gets hot?
I can run a da constantly (all day) on mine with no problems.
That's a 4hp twin.
The main air pipe is 1" galv water pipe, I have a rubber hydraulic hose (1.5"?) going from the compressor to a auto-drain trap. There is a norgren inside the booth but even before that the da is fine.

Auto drain on the receiver would help. They’re not expensive.

a decent run of large bore cold pipework can do as much as dryer. Especially if you have a few leg drops.

never have a problem with water even using high volumes of air .have a separator on the tank. large bore pipe to a secondary tank another separator on the blasting pot and all is fine. using small bore coiled pipe is no help at all and only any good for blowing tires up with

I have to change my air line setup. I don’t know where to get it all from though. What companies are there for buying it from? I wondered if too much water was causing the faults in the air valves. Both the air valves have begun to play up on first use. We run tools at work and the water trap next to our abrasive wheel cleaner is quite often half full of water. The tools at work don’t play up. How much water could cause the sander to play up I’m wondering. Surely it would take a fair bit of use and water to break it? Maybe just faulty parts again. Back to Sealey????

Is that household plumbing stuff? I don’t know where to get any of this airline stuff from. I’ve got stacks of plumbing stuff and the gas/solder etc.

I just used household plumbing stuff for my place. 15mm pipe is 1/2 bsp so fittings are easy to connect.

for the runs I used a bigger bore blue water pipe. Works fine.
