welding helmets reccomendations?

I've just purchased an Optrel Satellite (5-9 9-13) brand new in the box for 140 of my finest pounds sterling. (Delivered)

Mr Weldequip seems to think it was a decent bargain. If anyone wants the sellers ID PM me, I've noticed he has sold a few before and some other makes. Also had 100% feedback.

I'm chuffed anyway

Miller big window 'Elite' in black... awesome and 145 quid plus vat from my local supplier. Highly recommended.

I used to have an optrel, but the biggest problem with the swiss stuff is that the batteries are not replaceable. I know they are solar backup, but the batts go after a few years of regular use. I got mine from my old work and cut the optic unit apart and fitted new batteries.

I got the miller as it has replaceable batteries and solar backup as well, also I do a lot of tig work (hardly use it for the mig) and really appreciate the bigger window.

Since when do the Swiss make LCD's?

Really, whoever sells them the LCD will come from Korea, Japan or China.

Yes, guess your are right. Been buying LCD's for years in my designs.

I forgot about Optrel AG, have seen them and got some samples, but their data displays were not cheap and did not perform as well as the Asian ones.

Must check the settings of the parweld, but I've experienced sore eyes using it welding car panels, that's a few minutes, not 8 hours! To be fair I'd use a better helmet for continous use.

i havent got an autodarkening - id be worried that it wouldnt work sometime like, and ill end up with arceye

I don't know about the cheaper units, but the optrel have a UV filter, so even if it doesn't darken you wont get arceye.
I've get hit by it a few times when I have accidentally left it on the 'don't darken' setting for grinding, no arc eye, so I guess it works.

I have a vision guardian helmet I'm not sure where it is made but it seems to work fine it has a switch speed of 1/10,000 and darkness range of 9 to 13
I'm not sure how good or bad that is it cost about €160 but I got it for 120 please let me know what ye think or if you know anything about the brand

Perhaps you havnt got the Parweld set right? if you are getting sore eyes turn the shade up also have you got the delay time on long? also have you got the sensitivity turned up seems easy to blame the product , we sell hundreds of these parwelds and they are a reliable helmet

Simple speak to weldequip, here on the forum pm him better still. I to will also vouch for the parweld to be an ok helmet, only reason mine doesnt work an more is cos something got dropped on it and cracked the LCD screen
