I had to go to the medical walk in center last friday night as i have had a cough and flu like symptoms for 5 weeks now, it has now got into my sinus so out i came with a 5 day course of antibiotic...the sinus mucus seems to be lifting but this cough which brings nothing up to the throat and i cant seem to shift it is still hanging about. Recently had all kind of xrays and MRI so i can discount more serious lung conditions hopefully, but has anyone noticed a simple cough or cold seems to hang about for an eternity these days.

It sounds like what my daughter has. I took her to the GP a week ago, but made her sit in the back of the car, with a mask on. I really don’t want to catch any of that stuff on top of my current issues.

Lemsips then get a ton of layers on get in a sleeping bag round lunchtime and crank the heating up. Then sweat and keep sweating its uncomfortable but if you can tough it out until the next morning so much the better. It works for me. The bugs that cause the cold cant tolerate the raised body temerature for any length of time.

i dont have the flu injection as the last time i had that thing i was full of cold all winter something ive never had

due to the plumbing job i have a stronger imune system but i also eat alot of jelly sweats ( vitamin c ) i also buy jelly and eat that by the block

if i do catch something its boiled out of me as im wrapped up and really warm, lemsips for me and i prefer the lemon

i will also eat a hot curry as well dont forget i can eat a vindaloo and that really makes your nose run

a little dab of vicks under the nose for those with lung flem, vicks on the chest and back is a good thing to use

@roofman it reads as your struggerling to move the mucus in your lungs you need to advise doctor of this for antibiotics and an inhailer to help shift it

Beechams flu plus and stay away from other people ! I had a mate in work who had the jab and went 6 weeks with a flu virus effectively giving it too all of us but we were over it in a few days

Hot toddy works pretty damn well. Wife (who didn't like whisky) has switched from lemsip to hot toddy and clears the symptoms.

wouldnt take those unless realy needed if u ever end up needing them they may not work taking them regular for a cold they wont help

@brightspark I was being facetious. Antibiotics work against bacterial infections, viruses such as the cold and flu need antiviral drugs.

We have all been through this. MiL ended up in hospital as she couldn't breath. She, and we, thought it was the end of the road. She is OK now of sorts, but they did discover she has a heart problem, so some good came out of it.

As said, the infection will run its course, you can only supress the symptoms. I always end up with a permanent headache with this sort of thing. Plenty of lemon Lemsip helped a lot, though trying to sleep with a runny nose not easy. TBH I felt a lot better being outside.

If you buy Sudafed, get the proper one, pharmacy only, the one with pseudoephedrine. Packet of 12, only allowed one pack at a time. Just don't ask for a lithium battery and a box of matches at the same time.

If you have a cough then I find warm honey with lemon really helps me a lot...I have it in the evening.
