Not bloody likely! - and certainly not tonight. I was up in Annan with some mates on the bikes last night... had a few Guinness followed by a trip to an Indian. Garlic chilli chicken, that'll do nicely, then back to the bar for some cougar-watching and another pint or two
I woke up about 0400 with a bit of gurgling in the innards but went back to sleep.
Down for breakfast at nine, 3 egg omelette and a coffee then back to my room to offload, or so I thought. Nothing. So off to the bikes, set off and within half a mile my guts turned to water. Just to say made it to the nearest hypermarket bog which was probably quarantined by Environmental Health afterwards. Set off again and by the time the sign for Gretna services appeared, the bell was sounding for round two.
And so it went on for the rest of the day, so to anyone who followed me into the gents at any of these locations, my humble apologies and earnest wishes for your nasal recovery... That's the last time I eat chillis and ride a bloody motorbike...

When I was a lad I took the crossply tyres off my mini and fitted wide wheels with radials. 5J rims

same as got a set of reverse rims and 145 radials,great fun,peco exhaust, thought I was the biz.ha, nice thing was green mini white roof,so painted rims white, it did look neat.

Worse than them recaps, like remoulds but just the tread stuck on top! I think a lot of trucks run on remoulds, isn't that what Bandag's are?

I recall buying a pair of remoulds in my youth cos I was skint, I think they lasted about a 1000 miles, but Conway I think it was did remoulds as budget tyres for rallying so I guess they were OK

Colway, yes they were very good to be honest. We ran many seasons right up to international on them.

Most of the big names in truck tyres reuse the carcass, stripping off the old rubber and doing a complete remould. That's after the original tread has already been recut once or twice!
The tyres are first x-rayed to make sure the carcass is still sound, no kinked wires or wires touching... contrary to popular belief it's not incorrect inflation or 'normal' that causes those blown-out tyres you see on the road; it's deformation of the reinforcing plies caused by e.g. driving over kerbs, leading to friction between the wires which heats the tyre locally... or else debris such as bricks getting stuck between the inner sidewalls of a twin-wheel pair.
Or so my man at Michelin tyres Remix tells me...
Once the tyre's passed xray it goes into a machine that shreds the rubber off, it looks a bit like a planed Tarmac road awaiting a new topcoat.
A million miles or more is not unusual for a truck tyre, apparently.

Colway is the name that springs to mind regarding remoulds in those days, Not bad quality for the money, I did know a few folks that had a big appear in the tread after awhile, I think that the new tread had blown up where the original tyre had had a puncture,

They weren't good old days they were hard old days. Men were lucky to live to 65 to draw their pension.

Dunno about that, i was in a local care home recently, old people there in their 80's and 90's, most don't know where they are or who they are. One poor old dear there must have been well into her 90's, behaving like a child, clutching her teddy. A terribly sad sight. My two grandfathers and father died at work, and to be honest i would rather go like that then wind up in a dementia ward.

its not so bad living in a home and your away with the fairies . its when u have all your marbles and a full deck but cant walk or manage and have to listen to it with no decent conversation to stimulate your mind I see it all the time working in them

same heremy dad was well active till 75 then a big heart attack . that's the way to go

Anyway one thing i notice about times gone past, there was a sense of community. Everybody knew everybody else, people were always in and out of each others houses, went to the same dance halls and cinemas. Even in a city like Dublin, it seemed like a large town back then, if you were talking to someone you didn't know, chances are they knew someone you knew or visa-versa. That was certainly better than today.

The older buildings had a bit of character and you had a fondness for them. During the boom over here, lovely building were mysteriously catching fire and collapsing, where there were hideous cheap apartments and ugly steel and glass building chucked up.
