they wernt batteries they were accumulators. when I started work they still had the charger for them in the workshopJust an addition to 8obs mention of shillings in the meter, Around sixty five years back, we lived next door to my grand parents and I vividly remember the electric meter took Pennies,The meter was quite low in a little cupboard, and standing on top of the meter they had a jam jar half full of pennies ready for incertion, Don't even get me started on the wireless, that was i the living room and ran on glass cased batteries that I believe had to be charged, don't know where but I don't think that people had their own chargers,
