I decided just to buy a Harris 825, it isn't cheap but it should work well. At least according to the marketing stuff it has a large diaphragm and "reduces the amount of surging"
The cheap regulator I am currently using started squeaking randomly within a year of buying it but it still kept working at least. Since I smashed the low pressure gauge (replaced bottle and forgot to replace the chain) I replaced it with a gauge from an old regulator. Currently I can turn off the bottle and after a short time most of the pressure will be gone between the regulator and solenoid, before it would take weeks.
If I didn't just order something now I would probably end up wasting quite a bit of money in gas when I work on my projects on the weekend.
