Which trolley jack?

Can't complain about my Halfords quick-lift jack, it gets used a few times a year and I've had it over 20 years now with no issues,

I'll second that. Though I've not had my Halfords jack that long, probably about 4 or 5 years now. One of the things I liked about it is the casters are not cast iron, they're solid nylon, so just a tiny bit quieter when pulling it across the ground, but not much. I have to drag it up the driveway between 2 bungalows to the front of the house.

And as someone else mentioned get a trade card, if you can. I'm an HGV Driver and my job qualified me for a card.
Just had a look, it's £128 with the trade card.

Never bought a Facom jack, but over here Facom proper are equivalent to buying snap on, and see serious industrial use.
The expert range still have a lifetime guarantee, but Facom marketing themselves said :
"Compared to Facom, Expert will not offer the same level of quality, coverage of needs or service"
So tl,dr; expert is the cheap line of Facom tools. Make of that what you will.
Facom is black and decker owned now, and it was B&D's suggestion to bring in a cheap line because real Facom tools were considered too high quality and expensive for 80% of applications...

Personally I've never bought a new floor jack, I just check the small ad's for a ex hgv workshop one built from before the dawn of time and put new seals in it.

The hgv ones I've seen second hand look as though they'd need a second garage to store it in & gym membership so that I could train to move it
Added to which the ones I've seen are way out of range

If you can find one , even if they need repair you won’t go far wrong with a quality British trolley jack, either a Bradbury or an Epco. My Bradbury which I brought new in 1976 is still going strong , has never been even topped up with oil , in daily use for 25 years with frequent use since. I did by a MM high lift jack at one time that lasted less than 2 years.

Time & distance is a problem here : estimated time to dig out the old Epco from the back of father's garage.... Several days & time to source & replace the seals which is why it ended up there in the first place.... But thanks for the memory bump, I'd forgotten it was there

Personally I'd stay away from Aluminium framed trolley jacks unless you intend to only ever use them on flat & level surfaces, if not, they can twist - and stay twisted.

Thanks, I have a trade card & the price is the same as the retail, I've had the card for a few yrs now but rarely use it, this is the first time in ages, I always check but they're often more expensive for the stuff I'm buying.

What are you lifting with it? I assume its not being overloaded? Remember these are chinese tons.

Reminds me I have an old trolley jack my dad gave me sitting in the garage which I suspect just needs new seals. I remember him buying it new at an auction at least 43 years ago!

Anyone contemplating buying anythiung off sgs just needs to look on ebay etc to see they are all the same item but coloured different for an inflated price, always wondered why people rave about them.

Oh dear. Used to be good doscounts. To show how long it's been since I used mine, I drive to my 'local' halfords the other day. Parked up, bit distracted, walked into the store, thought this has changed layout. Walked to where the oil was supposed to be and realised I'd walked into a farm food store. No idea when it ceased to be Halfords. I needed a top up for the car - I have loads of oil but it was all 250 miles away!

I have about 6x Sealey jacks. Some 20 years old and sitting outside year around and still work great zero leaks after all this time.

And some new Sealey premier low profile 3 tonne jacks. All excellent quality no issues at all.

Yup sorry, I should have been more specific; I was commenting about the relative price & quality of old & new pillar drills.

I'd was put off the Sealey ones in my price range by the exposed cog release & for my use I can't justify the extra £ for the 3040.

Sealey HL2200, a licenced copy of AC Hydraulics HL2200.

Its got a foot operated fast lift, then you use the lever. Lifts to 700mm odd. You twist the handle to lower. Its not exactly low entry, but I always use a block of wood to lift on, so its not a problem really.

I also have an SGS 3ton jack, which is low entry and works ok, but the handle is so long you can only use it outside so you can get a full swing, otherwise it takes dozens of mini swings to get anywhere.

Hmm.... I've been looking for a replacement handle lift spring & seal kit for my old Facom 3.2T - and failed, this may well be a good replacement (it could do with a new set of Polyurethane wheels too)! it's only 18 years old but has been used a lot on every surface you'd need to use one.

Me too, I resealed it just after I bought the new Halfords jack just so I had a second jack.

I've had that probably 30 years nearly.
