Still, I’d happily knock the upload down to 0.5 Mb/s in favour of the download if I could. Any chance of that?

That sync speed looks a bit slow, and a clue might be in the 10.5dB noise margin. If you're on a 6dB target this shows that when your line last connected, 3.07meg was the best it could do while still retaining the 6dB margin. Now, or rather when you took that screenshot, either signal strength is better or noise reduced so that it now has a 10.5dB margin at that speed.
Also try "Sync Status" on AA settings page, see whether it's clocking up errors.
Did you resolve the dimmer switch issue?
The protocol uses different frequency bands for up and down. So even if you capped upstream (Line Settings "US") the frequencies would just be unused and not reallocate to downstream.

Ok, cheers. The up speed was previously 448 kb/s, so the ADSL2+ has improved that, as well as overall stability, if not the down speed.

Yes, for the first two nights after the A&A switch, the router kept losing sync, retrying continually. Went on IRC chat with the tech support, who did a few tests. He said it must be something my end, probably interference, check anything nearby, eg lighting systems.

Looks like it might still be learning as I'm pretty sure FTR will be a percentage of MSR, whereas you're showing them the same. FTR is the threshold at which a fault can be raised with BTW (or maybe it's Openreach) purely on speed.

Up Sync=420kb/s LoopLoss=32.9dB SNR=9.0dB ErrSec=0 HECErr=0 Cells=570
Down Sync=4588kb/s LoopLoss=53.5dB SNR=7.4dB ErrSec=259 HECErr=N/A Cells=646
In comparison we're getting 4588k on a line marginally worse at 53.5dB vs your 53. We also have a pile of errors ("ErrSec" at the bottom). The "SERVICE CHANGE ..." is because A&A have applied an over-ride to stop BTW/OR line management from slowing us down in response to those errors.
If you can find error stats on your router it will give a better idea. I think that sync status only shows errored seconds in the current 15 minute period. But you could run that a few times and see if it ever shows a significant number.
