some. thats why they have there own drawer.

Screwdriver for my gib screws is obvious, they have countersunk locking rings and the bent spanners are easy to place by size and shape.

Always worth poking through the drawer when i get an odd fixing.

Some of the older steam turbines used wide slotted cheese head screws, we used to use big wooden handled screw drivers called "London Patern"

Years ago I was joyriding with a mate who had the local DynoRod franchise. There was a manhole that nobody could open - screws were very wide - I used a pair of Molegrips - the handle end!

Did machine a screwdriver blade a few months ago from a hardened pin for a one off.
Held up to some abuse.

Hi, When I started at the bus company they issued us with a basic set of tools, part of the kit was a 'trap key' for the large slotted screws. Which was just a cold chisel with the edge ground back square and a short length of 1/2" bar welded on the top, if you need more leverage use an open ended spanner on the hexagonal shaft.

Oil drums, I just used two screwdrivers to open them, one vertical and one horizontal.

they are for adjusting the wear in the ball joints on the drag links steering arm..(2)..this d/link comes from the steering box to the king pin then to the axle cross rod (sometime called track rod, this adjusts the toe in toe out, Tracking) ......depends on axle type but above describes a solid axle.......
all the steering ball joints have this type of adjustment on my 1928 Citroen.......
even better u can grease the blighters

Be a fun project to forge some wide slot blades, maybe from some spring steel. Would it be better to make a single tool or say a quarter inch drive screwdriver?

They were gunsmith's tools known as turnscrews.

If you can add metal by grinding you are the master and Im chucking my stuff in the scrap.
Knowing s427 personally I know the quality of work he aims for and I reckon theres a good chance he will be re forging something with enough metal to make a screwdriver

Whatever floats your boat.

We don't all have access to a full machine shop and have to make do with "ghetto Hacks" as you call them.
I call that working around the limitations of your tools.

I have a "cabinet maker's" screwdriver which I cut down and ground (grinded?) to shape on a water stone (tormek) to fit roofing bolts.
considering that the screwdrivers can be picked up at car boot sales for 20p? (10p-50p) each, that would seem to me to be the easiest/cheapest way (barring the £240 grind wheel)
