yah suffice to say I bit off a lot with this project and I've given up. It would make a good camper yes, cheers for the comment. The chassis is extended more than normal so good for a box. here is a better pic
back to one of my problems, sorry ) this door, you can see the grinder marks. I realise a flap wheel woulda got that a bit finer, but is there a way I could have got it completely flat, no marks, pristine?

dunno. maybe later down the road. right now im enjoying it. I have a job in IT, so it gives me a welcome diversion in the evenings.
a sanding disk you say Bill... for a grinder? or do you mean like an orbital sander, i have a little bosch one, it works well. I never thought of using it on steel.

May I suggest you get some one to do the calcs for bumper design and the mounting bolts and file them away?
The Huskey you have is an excellent winch not the fastest line speed but it will work for the next 100 years if fitted with a albrite water proof solenoid ideally mounted remotely out of the way

They are supposed to be water proof but I find the best results by mounting them in a butty box with a few bags of silica jel

Kent had seen one of those flixible wheels before but never used one. Looking at video on youtube, they might well be what I'm looking for. I'm suprised a sanding pad can operate at the rpms of a grinder. Definitely interesting.
Hi Winchman. okay, sounds like a good plan, but dont know where to start, or who to ask. Never realised such calculations were a thing, would welcome pointers.
Of the solenoids I've looked at the tg thompson had the most overkill internals, just need to stump up the cash for one. http://goo.gl/HaaA9t

Obviously you don't do that much metalworking half the time people will be on sanding discs and a flexible or rigid backer

Should be fine as long as you can keep water out.
Calcs really you need a structural engineer or draughtsman who is used to doing them, my mate did mine as its part of his job, it just proves on paper you haven't made any errors with sizes and design, a common one is the wrong grade bolts holding it to the vehicle.
Whilst its a good idea you must have them if doing any commercial work with it or selling them many people don't and you can really come unstuck if something goes wrong

Yes one should be careful with ones limitations when it comes to safety and that's not meant as criticism just advise. Directors have been sued stupid over things they didn't necessarily even know about
Thoughts of hitting a pedestrian or a winch comming off in stones path gives me a cold feeling. Best listen up to Winchman it's his thing

noted, appreciated. really throws a spanner in my works though, as I wasnt going to draw it, I was just going to build it freehand. I've built and used winch bumpers before, two of them, in fact ive built a ton of stuff and never had anything fail, i am quite confident in myself and wouldnt push something I've built passed the point at which i reckoned it would fail, for instance i wasnt going to tow a caravan with this thing
cos it doesnt have a third arm to the centre of the car. Interestingly I built another one for my new car that's way buffer than this. Both went through the car test. A friend of mine reckoned once the engineering is up to a certain standard they let it go.
this thing is built to tow 350 kilos etc etc etc
that's all heavy wall hollow section.
hitch is rated to 3000kg cos i was paranoid bout it failing
I've got grade 8 bolts. the husky is a powerful thing so ill get grade 10's for the mount plate.
Grade 8's will be fine for the chassis connection, because there are eight bolts connecting the uprights to the chassis. The welds are strong, not pretty but strong. gonna go over them again once its together.
had to make some spacers for the husky as it mounts a funny way
this is a battery tray i made, to hold an odyssey pc2250, 40kg, attached to the frame in two points, i should have taken more photos of it. its deff overbuilt

well not sure as its an eu member state so it should be a common law but there may be some expemptions for small un braked trailers .. dunno ?
