I second that, plasma cut would be usefull, its on my birthday hit list ! Still inclinded to thing it would be better bolted on though. as that will be a heavy lump to get winch off otherwise . really nice job you are making of this. Arther

my buddy just pointed out that I could hit a wall with this and it wouldn't matter. I think I might construct the wings with heavy material also so I can do that. I have some decent sized Alu channel, might try figure a way to use it.

I need a mig torch with a short lead to weld alu. I have all the other bits, liner, tips, wire, but I need a torch before commit to I buying the gas.

This one came up last week on ebay but i missed it.

What about a spool gun instead? you can pick them up cheap (<£60) and would be better than a short torch.

That bumper mock up with card board looks spot on, so how about ali chequer plate(ye I like it) then painted or coated satin black to stay with the industrial look. Arther

also what about heavy duty weld mesh to cap it off on the top so you could stand on it if needed.Arther

ill put checkerplate on the top surface to stand on, but the front will be smooth whatever it is. I have some alu checkerplate lying around.

hello peoples. I am wondering about the suitability of Flux Core Gasless wire for welding the uprights, instead of arc welding them. Would I get adequate penetration? Appreciate any opinions.

Dont really want to re-learn arc welding, I'll do it if i have to, but using a wire fed process is going to be easier for mem, if flux core is a go'er.

I got distracted from the truck, that happens, by making a garden bench. I made a circle cutter for the plasma last night with a bearing I bought on ebay. It needs refining but it does work.

So this project is moving in geological time. Cest la vie. Did a tiny bit more. Bought some welding magnets in Lidl for 5 euros each, I was so happy.
so cheap.

also bought a spool gun for welding aluminium, for doing the sides of the bumper / wings.

am not very learned when it comes to welding, though I worked at it for years. lol.

I have discovered the mig spray transfer in the last while, and have fallen in love with it. The sound it makes and the resulting welds are really satisfying.

Am going to have to get a torch rated for higher amps though because the ones I have, the plastic on them keeps melting. I'm getting the occasional weird sound from the wire feed too, not sure what thats about.

Have been informed that my welder has a thermal cut out to prevent damage when running at full tilt, which is nice, means I'm not going to destroy it.

I dont think I can afford 170 E for the argon gas this month... I'm a bit disappointed bout that, but what can you do.

Thats a better looking weld eh, not suprised you are pleased with that, so what size wire and settings did you have your ifl set at to get that sorted? managed to melt any more guns or did you uprate . either way nice one Ned. Arther
