160 amps is far too high for a 3.2mm rod, try 120 and tweak from there!
I would suggest using a 3.2mm rod for this job. Have a bit of practice if possible and you should be fine. Fillet welds are harder but a 3.2 is a good size, you can pretty much jam it in there and be ok.
