Durite do fuses up to 700amp and carriers to house them in various IP ratings. They are good bits of kit. Draw back is the case can yellow.
I have used the 400amp ones when working on a Pallfinger lorry loader. If your local Truck parts supplier does not have them they can order them in for next day. Plus with suitable cables and crimps.
Hydraulics ok 'till your engines konked out in the middle of a pond/bog and won't start under water!
This definitely did not happen to me!
One of the best winches I've used for fine control is a capstan, just by by varying the tension on the dead end of line.
Get some old fire hose, split it , wrap it round and cable tieI still need a solution for shielding the cables. There is a bundle of cables running down the chassis, the winch cables, the diff lock airlines, and three nylon fuel tubes (feed, return, vent). They are spiral wrapped together and cable tied to the chassis!

Run them inside the car like rally cars do?.
Then Mr @Ton-up your really innit, innit
That argument will roll on for years , there have been many a dead engined offroader with a leccy winch run its batteries down before pulling itself out and then having nothing left to start its engine. PTO hydraulic or capstan for me as per Mr @Robotstar5 , proper control with a winch that will work tirelessly all day. Half an hour of graft with these leccy ones and they normally suffer a melt down of the winch or sillynoids
Bob
The large capacity bolt in fuses are called 'mega fuses ' btw

I did that with my Landy - ran the wiring harness along the channels on the inside of the tub where the sides bolt to. If I needed to lift the tub just undid some connectors behind the centre seat.
If you have your engine underwater you've done it wrong anyway, so there is little point in winching your vehicle out if you cannot recover it.
I agree wholeheartedly! I don't have a powered winch anymore, as you said, more often needed on the back, so I now have a Tirfor I chuck in the back and if I don't have that, a high-lift jack and chain!
Try telling a Camel Trophy entrant that
The higher spec Camel Trophy winches are just packed with silicon to try and keep the water out.
The problem with many winches is people stealing them as they are so expensive.
A national grid team lost a massive hydraulic winch off the from of a Unimog whilst in a cafe! Some one drove up and unbolted it in less than 20 mins
