Out if interest, do you know whether that 2,500 will reduce with the recent requirements-relaxation accouncement?

There is a caveat to that in that there will be no automatic updates it has to be done manually , also security and feature updates will not be avaliable so that will be an issue. Most large firms with any sort of IT inteligence will have a server dedicated to pushing out windows updates anyway as the number of times in the past we have had to fix problems caused by not testing it first is ridiculous. Security updates will be the biggest problem but like with Windows 10 if you are a major customer of microsoft then given enough money i bet they would update older pc's

@dieselsamurai We have SCCM plus a distributed WSUS setup. We test security patches on our key applications before widespread deployment

@skotl not explored yet but if it is as @dieselsamurai says then we will still have 2500 to replace

The last SCCM report was from just before Christmas, 99% of devices are reporting either CPU, TPM or both

Tik tok ban on Sunday. Microsoft flip flopping on how quick a PC to allow Windows 11 and then Bambu labs blocking/ not blocking 3rd party apps depending where you read.

But why on earth would you trust some other company / guy to build your operating system for you? How do you know they are better at security than Microsoft, and less in bed with other organisations than Microsoft?

Probably repeating myself but I’ve spent almost 40 years in IT, including security and compliance, and I have no issues with windows on all my home PCs.

Keeping up to date with releases and patches (more specifically, having Microsoft do that for me) is a large part of that comfort.

I'm glad I unplugged my win 7 machine from the internet long ago, it still does what it needs to do and it's getting no viruses, updates are a breeze they just don't happen, I do know not everyone can have a pc not on line but god it's great it just starts up and works.

im still online with it and i go near bad sites

its caused no issues at all with all the years of no updates to it

but i do know the pc and what it runs im also careful with what it downloads and it does as some sites force an auto download on your pc they just get deleted

as goes for online banking i dont use it, so not on my pc

im only upgrading now as the programs i like to use is no longer supported and i need to upgrade to continue to use them

i dont want windows 10/11 so its time for me to transfer to using another alternative so that i can still use those programs and there updates for me to get what i get

whilst also using the same unit that is rather old but still really usable

if i want fast enough i will just use the gaming system instead

My problem was old pc with updates that didn't go down well, as in it wasn't up to it, this pc in dog yrs is probably 132 it's not far off that in human terms
