I must admit, lying under a lorry trailer sorting out a wiring fire with the snow blowing under I was beginning to question my life choices today….

Not snow today but ice swapping an Allison 3000 onsite

Was 2.7 in my garage today, had to finish off a commission but tried to do as much in the house as possible.

Have invested in a heated Gilet. Takes a USB powerbank which I can charge via the garage solar.
That, long johns, thick socks and I do okay. Just fingers and nose gets frozen.

Need to find something to stand on (so I'm not on the concrete), that wont burst into flames from welding/grinding.

Wish I'd bought a diesel heater before they jumped in price by 50% ish.

Day out Pheasant beating in bowland tomorrow. Layered up so Ill be warm and it will be still, so some epic scenery and some good birds flying out

Getting chilly out tonight, ice sparkling on everything, beet harvesting too so deadly slippy.

Probably got a few hours drive at 5am Friday morning heading into rush hour on the M25, so that will be great fun. Muppets everywhere no doubt.

We used some type of rubber anti-fatigue interlocking matting in our welding booths, weld sparks could mark them, but they never caught alight.

Went to work today after scraping ice off the trucks..vest,2 T-shirts and a hoodie, by 10.30 everything was off and working in a single T-shirt in the sun. BBC news tonight i should of feared for my life it was that cold apparently

Been in the thermals, the overalls, the wooley hat, here, since last week.

Ditto here. W.German ex-mil padded inner trousers, which beat the snot out of M&S thermals which I'd used for years, and a Dutch ex-mil sleeved fleece liner for under my padded winter shirt, with two under-layers, of M&S thermal top and a cotton t-shirt.
I'll be buying more of these. I'm sitting quite comfortably with a room temp of 14degC.
If I have to venture into the workshop I'll put the heater on for a few hours at low to take the chill of the steels, and wear gloves as necessary.
Nothing worse than cold tools.

Watching a programme today about an airport in Alaska, one chap was changing an engine on a DC3 outside, he commented "it's a nice day today, only -10°C I don't even need to wear gloves"

A guy I follow on youtube in Canada, -40c at the moment. A bit chilly that.

Yep its that time of year.

Bit of preheat needed in the boots.

And slip into a pair of Mericun quilted canvas overalls, you can lay in a puddle with these on and not get wet or cold.

I’m on holiday for a week in Cornwall (cancelled from September) and its been a bit cool but nice and sunny. Cracking day yesterday, really enjoying it.
We’ve been going to the tourist hotspots we won’t normally go near because of the amount of people and they are empty.

Those overalls look suspicously like a tank suit that used to turn up every year in the wildfowlers club auction & bought by a newbie only to be sold on again at the next one!
I do have a DEW liner in the loft, its a large hooded overall quilted with some kind of fleece inside. Rated for minus 40 degrees c.
I may dig it out again but its just too hot to do anything in!

I have the carhartt ones. They are awesome. As they zip down the legs you don’t need to take your boots off.

What brand are these?

Because of where the lorry was I couldn’t put mine on yesterday. I had to wear my hi viz portwest onesie. Not a patch on the carhartt stuff :/

Minus 4.7 where I am. I decided against going in to work today on the 'bike so am having a day off (no doubt will have to go out and cut some more wood).

Can't tell how cold it is in the garage this morning, the thermometer has died, as has an external one we have.
Car showed -4, and the auto folding mirror on the driver side refused to un fold until I defrosted it.

It'd still be dark here at 8am.
