Yet another scam....

I had an unusual call this morning from a chap in Belfast, he had the usual "your internet will be cut off in 24 hours etc." and his caller display showed my number?? he called my number as he was worried about being cut off, I explained about the scam and number spoofing so he went away happy

Another "paypal" scam today, by email this time

That will catch a few out as it's quite well worded with only one typo I can spot.

It shouldn’t catch anyone out. Only those daft enough to click the link, just been lazy and not opening up a fresh browser page directly. Our lass does it all the time, and she’s in admin.

Both Jamie, who sits next to me at work, and me got caught out by our Corporate Overlords testing phishing emails.

We are both senior developers and worldly wise but it was soooo believable. From HR, no signature block, spelling and grammar mistakes and vague.....

My rule is never to click on links...too risky. Even if the sender is genuine they themselves may have been hacked so could be a scam even if it's from a genuine email.

What I find infuriating is companies (even banks!) Send me links all the time. I really wish they would stop!

Is there a 'Don't allow clickable link' option of webmail pages? Thunderbird will tell me if it suspects a scam, but nothing more.

Maybe this could be a feature. OK, people will just cut and paste but it will require a bit of extra effort.

As far as I'm aware, genuine comms from Paypal include your registered name. If it just says 'Hello' or 'Dear customer', it's ballcocks.

TV licensing threatograms are eagerly anticipated here at Wedg1e Villas: probably two a month of varying degrees of pseudo-nastiness.
The latest is a window envelope with TWO windows...! In the smaller window is visible something like "Your HO1011014" which, upon eagerly tearing open the wrapping, is revealed to be the number of an official form that has supposedly been submitted to the 'enforcement team' for 'immediate action'

So I tell you who I am and then the threatograms come with my name rather than 'The Legal Occupier'...? If we were doing business you might have reasonable grounds to know who I am, but we're not, so you don't. Even then, if I don't buy a loaf of bread from Tesco I don't expect them to want to know who I am or whether I have any butter.

* They never do; and on the one occasion when, in a good mood, I deigned to let the 'inspector' into my house, I opened all the doors leading off the hall (it's a bungalow) and he said...

The whole license thing really has had its day I reckon.

I remember the old TV detector vans....bit difficult now everyone is online!

Number of scam TV license mails I get is crazy...and PayPal too of course. As soon as the phishing starts I just create a new email address....that way I know it's all a load of nonsense.

There should be a notional charge of 1p per email....soon put an end to the millions of spam messages.

Every time I get an email asking me to do some thing I don't want to do I send it to our spam - Phishing team reporting the email & sender. Then normally there is a follow up from some senior person saying it's legit I forward that on to the Phishing team as well
