I'm sorry mate but you can't fail the mot for no fenders, its not an mot issue, its a Construction & Use issue, If you had fought it you would of won.

This is a build thread so i don't want to get into the legal do's and don'ts

I got pulled up for having wheels that protruded from the arches in a Mini and it failed MOT for the same reason. If a car goes through IVA before registration with arches on, the arches have to stay on, there is no grey area. Exposed rims on a car or motorcycle are a MOT fail whether it's raining or not and are illegal. Cycle wings on a car have to cover the rim and the outer profile of the tyre.

Shame you've done so much work on the generator, I saw an article in a mag recently about a company doing alternators in generator housings to get decent output while keeping the "classic" look.

Ha ha ha I sell them !!! but they haven't got the best track record i'm afraid, At least i know this one will be reliable.

A generator in good condition is good enough, most brit cars of the 50/60's had the same lucas 4 inch, theyre less than £35 new

I'm intrigued where you get them new for less than £35 ???

My block came back from reboring +60 thou & new cam bearings on friday, My mate the reborer really done me a big favour and had it done in 2 days, so Gomez and I set to flatting the epoxy primer, The epoxy has been on over a week now so was rock hard, anyway after 4hrs of both of us with sore fingers it was ready for paint, here's the results, It came out just as I imagined

Started to sort out a few small bits for my engine as crank isn't back from balancing yet, When i bought my engine bits i ordered a fuel pump blanking plate, never looked in the box till last night and found this, I wasnt impressed

I found a bit of stainless flat plate in my scrap bin and set about making something that looked a little more interesting

I didn't get a thermostat cover with my engine and didn't like the aftermarket ones as they are all billet aluminuim so back into the scrap bin to find a bit of 3/8" stainless plate and some off cuts of tube, A 1.5" hole was bored in the plate with a holesaw and the tube welded in from the rear, I might yet run a weld bead around the outside as i think it still looks a little billety. A small peice of thickwall tube was turned in the lathe and welded on the end to stop any hose slippage.

I had a little time left so set about roughing out the oil pump for paint.

tiny flap wheels? dremel type attatchments? die grinder tooling??

ahh nice selection of bobbins... are they the 1/4" shanked size or the much smaller dremel sized kiddies??

even the smallest items of mine are 40mm+.. really should look into getting soem tiny items before the final build takes place on mine... even a couple of hours tickling will transform most cast parts..

All 1/4" shank, I don't use Dremels as they havn't got any grunt.

I bought a B&D Powerfile for my Christmas present a couple of years ago and it is so useful. I have to invent new uses for it and it always surprises me how versatile it can be.

Yep i was surprised how useful it is, I have an air powered one but prefer the electric.
