Have a few wee jobs to do on the AJ, thorspark ignition kit to fit to the Magneto.
The headlamp ear and fork shroud on one side were rippled with accident damage:
and headlamp was badly painted Hammerite grey black with an extra switch hole filled:
Picked up this lot today all nicely painted for about £40:
So a few easy jobs to sort out.

Sod the Thorspark, they are complete rubbish.
Get your magneto reconditioned , or even do it yourself with a recon armature....

am pretty sure its the condenser, reviews on Thorspark seemed positive, though does need a battery. K2F Mag.

The Thorspark has a very small diameter magnetic rotor, and is very difficult to get timed.
If going down the electronic route, use one of the Czech VAPE systems, as marketed by Wassells, together with the replacement K2F housing arrangement.
Highly recommended....

Collected my K2F Mag yesterday from @zeppelin builder , remagnetised, new condenser and new contacts braised onto patterns points that were eroding. Saw it tested with nice fat sparks.
@zeppelin builder really know his stuff and has some great kit, got a look at his home made overhead cam Norton:
Some amazing features like flanged removable top frame rails for ease of maintenance and a manually adjustable main jet external to the carb.
His 1927 heavily tuned Royal Enfield v twin combination that suffered a catastrophic sidecar axle casting failure at speed.
I got roped into a few jobs on my bank holiday today: welded up a frame for a table for my father in law. checked out a brake rattle on my nephew's VW Caddy : cheap pattern rear disk pads too lose a fit in the retainers, washing dirty bikes from the trip and finally got the Magneto refitted to the AJS, hopefully time it tomorrow.

Too many distractions, timing it tonight, I imagine a few folk on here have never done this ritual:
plugs out, offside inletcover off, into gear and turn engine over until you feel piston at top dead centre after inlet valve closes. Mark line on a straw even with top of spark plug boss, then then mark another line 3/8" above and rotate engine back until line aligns with top of plug boss.
Set points gap fully advance ignition and hold a cigarette paper in the points gap, rotate clockwise until paper comes loose and back off until just holds the paper.
Push timing gear onto magneto driveshaft taper, double check shaft not moved and nip up bolt on timing gear.
Just to get the timing cover, points cover and valve cover back on and gear lever, then ready to start.
Set points gap fully advance ignition and hold a cigarette paper in the points gap, rotate clockwise until paper comes loose and back off until just holds the paper.

I had one of those tdc gauges that screwed in the plug hole, came with a Triumph I bought….no clue where it is, but it didnt leave with the bike, so must be safe. Agezimers is a bugger

Better than a mechanic, sorry technician, where I last worked. Put a pencil through the plug hole and turned it over to find tdc. You guessed it , pencil caught on plug hole an snapped off. Several hours work to remove and replace head.
