The engine does make a nice noise on hard acceleration, though great to just glide along at 60 mph.

Wait until he wants to trade up to the supercharged ones.
Now that's a great noise at WOT, though fine to pootle along at 120mph.

Fitted new boot lock motor at lunchtime today, so boot now locking correctly and warning off on dash.

Appointment tomorrow morning at 8:00 am at Prestige Jaguar, Paisley to sort out central locking, so pre 6:00 am start tomorrow and a holiday from work:

The previous owner had broken one of the glovebox retaining latch lugs. I bought a second hand one of ebay a few weeks ago relatively cheap, so stripped down the old one at the weekend, meant glovebox lid etc off, wood trim from dash out, only to realise it was the wrong one!

So delivery today of the correct version, sitting behind the wrong one, a job for the weekend.

Seems an awfy complex solution to a glovebox latch.

The glovebox latch had been broken so only latching on one side and the glovebox sitting proud of the dash:

So out with the dash:

and not enough space to get past the airbag, so out with the glovebox to free it:

Its an interesting structure in the car made up of aluminium castings.
New part is a complex latch:

sorted the glovebox lights while in there

and now locks on both sides:

I was thinking the exact same, how much that must have cost to develop.

On the production line the complete assembled dash is swung into the car and secured with 4 big bolts in less than 30 seconds, but then as @Rannsachair has found out it takes hours to do any repairs to it later.

It is, comfiest car I have driven, much better than Mrs Rannsachair's Lexus, and it is pretty good.

Not surprised, took me about 3 hours, if I did it again would take 1.5 to 2. Did a few wee repairs like plastic welding the left glovebox light back into place and picked out the broken latch parts from where they were wedged out the way.

Don't forget the price point of these when new.
No 2 son keeps reminding me that my old X358 was the equivalent of 3 times the price of my current X260. The quality difference is stark.

The feet heater flap on my xf Is creaking, and I don't think it's opening - somehow I doubt I will take the dash out to fix it.....

I always look at jobs like this and think, och I'll do that in an hour......then 3 hours later... As well it's just for fun.
