plenty of people are using non air fed , but no one should be telling you to officially
If air fed systems where cheaper more would be using them. That's something one might complain about, but money has always been a key factor in safety. There are cheaper chinese supplied air kits nowadays but ehhh
The problem is the extra compressor capacity you need to run a lot of them.I have been trying to sell / give away a breathing air filter kit... with not a single expression of interest.

ill take it.I have been trying to sell / give away a breathing air filter kit... with not a single expression of interest.
Aside from the cost, the single biggest limiting factor with using air fed systems is the air requirement.
Considering the size of compressor you need to run a mask and still have reserve for painting, its just not practical for most hobbyist, as well as some "backyard" and mobile sprayers.
Well, my airfed just about uses all the flow from a tiny diaphragm compressor, about 500W I guess. Job In the pipeline is a small tank and reg to capture the air from the comp when I'm not breathing in, which should then give it some "slack".Aside from the cost, the single biggest limiting factor with using air fed systems is the air requirement.

not surprised how much u want for itI have been trying to sell / give away a breathing air filter kit... with not a single expression of interest.
Seems like a good use-case for powered "fresh air tube" type air-fed systems, like the MSA Turboflo.
They're a bit clunky compared to the compressed air systems but as long as the hose reaches far enough to physically put the inlet fan in clean air, those systems are totally standalone with minimal running costs, and a way smaller overhead than buying a larger compressor.
That's not an apples to apples comparison, none of this stuff is cheap new.Googled that and 900 £ ? That's cheaper than a compressor where you are? I could buy a 2nd hand Atlas Copco for that.
There's a chap selling 2 units on eBay, £300 the pair, good condition.I'd be interested in a low pressure system if it was possible to find one cheaply enough, as in less than 100.
I couldn't find it, any idea what to search for?
While I certainly wouldn't recommend them I figured for the price I'd give one of the cheap Chinese air fed masks a shot. What's the worst that could happen?!If air fed systems where cheaper more would be using them. That's something one might complain about, but money has always been a key factor in safety. My observations having used it for a few months now: positive!
I've been pretty stupid in the past regarding 2k finishes. Using disposable 3M carbon masks well beyond their recommended effective timeframe and sometimes being in the presence of 2K vapours with no mask at all to the point that even a mere whiff of the 2k poly clears that I use and I'm wheezing and coughing!
So I picked up an air fed mask from Amazon, China's finest. The mask itself is a clone of sorts of some version of a 3M mask. It fits really comfortably and provides a really good seal around my face anyway, even if I'm not clean shaven! The mask will take 3M filters if you don't want to use the air supply.
The filtration system is attached to a belt and consists of an oil/water filter, a carbon filter and then a vessel to add water so you can add moisture to the air supply if required.
I run it from a 2hp 25L compressor which admittedly is probably underpowered but is solely used for the mask and runs well away from any fumes. I only spray small panels but the compressor runs nearly non stop for the time I have the mask in operation.
I mentioned earlier how even the mere whiff of a 2k poly fume would set me off coughing in the past, well since using this mask and provided I go well clear of the spray area and then remove my PPE I've not had any coughing fits and what's more the fresh air over your face on a warm day is quite refreshing. Only downside being that I can't find pull off visor protectors that will fit it as its domed and while there is a spare carbon filter included spares seem to be an issue to locate!
That's just my experience, if you're interested in getting one you take your own risks!
