My reason for wanting to put it in the roof/loft would be to save some space.

I guess it ultimately depends on your use of your compressor. If you use it loads during the day for extended periods it could get very hot.

Then again, lots of compressors running in hot countries all the time without being in an air conditioned/cool space which is probably hotter than what my loft will get.

i use mine for over half an hour shotblasting and it gets red hot im not particularly bothered as i didnt pay much for it but i wouldnt fancy cooking it if i paid over a grand for one . they havent got a great duty cycle for long tuns

Maybe aim a large box fan beside it to move more air over the casings?

Is the belt cage plastic or metal mesh on your compressor?

The plastic ones tended to get better designs as years went on. Aka they direct and focus the air at the pump more than a plain metal cage would.

Nice one, and being so high up and what @brightspark mentioned, and I can confirm this with my workshop, the temps up there can be 10 degrees higher in summer than ground level., for a guy with your ingenuity it will be easy for you to devise an air inlet supply from the exterior of the building to supply the compressor inlets, a couple of hoses connected to the inlets to the exterior, it will make a difference.

Yes getting the tank stripped and up there was a good milestone. But there is still quite a bit to do:

Splice and extend welder supply
Sand and respray control panel
Mount it on wall and bring the new cables to compressor to it also.
(Full rewire)
Derust and paint some bolts- source new replacements for others
Modify and mount the new motor capacitor housings
Remake the copper pipes on the tank
Make custom gaskets for the pump which was taken apart
Respray one motor satin black
Fit the new belts and reassemble motors etc
Fit new PCL XF fittings and test for leaks
Fit an auto tank drain valve and pipe through wall to outside
Oil change

There are other small jobs but there is still quite a bit to do.

Probably a bit late for this as you've bought your parts but I found these people cheaper than the e-bay shops and the kit had more in it:

Any idea on the head bolt torque setting? It must be low like 25nm but would like to find out proper spec if possible

I got replacement gaskets cut tonight out of a Victor Reinz universal gasket sheet. It is a plastic like material similar to the original. The original gaskets are 1mm after removal. The new gasket is 1.2mm thick so that seems very close and still to be compressed.



I also am draining the oil from both pumps overnight. New genuine ABAC oil is here so I'll get the 2 pumps back on the tank and refilled with oil tomorrow.

Well I had bad news this morning- one of the 2x pumps had forking fell off my workbench during the night

The large pulley was bent on it. The aluminium pulley / flywheel. Oil was everywhere too it did a real number on its way down as the oil tray went with it.

They were sitting on rubber blocks. It's my fault- surprised it fell but obviously wasn't secure enough.

The pulley is banjaxed needs replaced and they are hard to find at the moment for any less than £100+ post.

There is a place in Ireland showing stock and cheaper I'll double check on Monday. Its a large tool place which I wanted to visit anyway.

What I did find when searching for about an hour was someone selling a good used 2011 year complete B3800 ABAC pump assembly. It included the correct diameter flywheel etc he measured it for me.

I think for now it is best that I use the new oil on this newer matching replacement pump and install that. It's not a total loss as I'll keep the other pump body as a spare for future. It is fine apart from a flywheel. Indeed I could likely stick it on ebay and get some £ back.

The other used pump was a fair price so I bought it.

What do you do- s#it happens. Furious with myself for that happening but I'll keep going and look on the brightside I have a spare pump now

This is my spare pump




There is no other damage apart from the aluminium pulley which I already removed and binned.

The pump has been drained of Oil and would need to be anyway for shipping.

It is in 100% working order this was the pump which was working when I tested the compressor. (It was the other pump with the blown head gasket)

Check first if your pulley is approx 24mm ID and just under 350mm OD. If so drop me a pm I would sell this pump on if it can be put to work. (For £125 which I think is a fair value)

I did get the head gaskets replaced on the other pump and it is now pumping out like the other one when I put my thumb on the outlet and turn by hand so that's a good sign it was 100% dead before.



I also got all new stainless hardware for the compressor this morning as I wasn't going to re install rusty bolts at this stage!

There is something else I need advice on please!

I am replacing the existing copper piping pump to cylinder. These were badly knocked and dented in the past.



Turns out the original copper piping is 14mm. I am using 15mm which is OK at the pump as a 1/2 bsp elbow fits but on the compressor tank fitting side it will only accept a 14mm pipe.

Does anyone have suggestions on going from 15mm copper to 14mm copper? I think it will be best to leave the 14mm pipe end and adopt the 15mm copper to it.

Ideally an end feed fitting or something tidy. I looked online for a bit and can't find anything suitable yet.

Maybe I could file down a copper pipe swage tool? To flare the 15mm out just enough to allow the 14mm to slip inside and solder them. Down near the tank connection.

I just sold my 100L Mac Tools compressor to a happy buyer there. Loaded it with him and its away. That was a great compressor just a little too small for my current needs and being direct drive it was noisy.

I had also sold my 25L wolf Compressor so that leaves me with my 200L SIP and this tandem Compressor which are great machines.

In my garage loft I had previously installed an electric hoist.



It's 240v operated with a remote switch. It is mounted on box section steel with one end resting on the masonry wall. And the rest of it spread onto the rafters. It is plenty strong and doesn't flex or anything at all under load.

It is positioned right over the existing large access hatch. It's not just handy for lifting stuff in and out of the loft by myself but also for working at something on the Ground Floor.

Such as this m119 V8 engine which doesn't readily bolt to an engine stand.

I did also put an endoscope into this tandem compressor tank.



It is in decent condition inside especially for a 2007. Rust on the bottom where water would collect which is normal. There is still mostly silver / clean metal in the rest of the tank which is great to see.

It's actually got less rust than the 200L SIP which is less than 2 years old and I bought used a couple months back:



The SIP was not drained regularly.

This tandem compressor was drained regular and had very little use going by tank condition and the pump bores still having the factory cross hatching
