I am currently in the middle of my workshop after hours/days of stripping plastic off a just three year old BMW 330E hybrid - which has been refused "warranty goodwill payment" from the dealership. I am testing Flexray new type CAN starline 1/2 signals with a scope - with a view to condemming an £8k EME invertor unit. The car has not done 30.000miles... I yet to get the battery unit down and strip and find out if the contactors have burnt down in the SME (safety box). That gonna be another half a day to get into it....

No I am not gonna have an EV for myself...

What I’d personally like to see is that people who can and are able to make use of ev move over, when the time comes to replace cars. Which is pretty much what I see happening now.

Then the remaining fossil fuel production is able to last longer and still able to power the stuff that can’t make use of existing battery tech, eg long distance goods transport etc

Also the change is going to be gradual over years, decades even. Nothings happening overnight. (Except me charging my car)

Didn’t VAG have similar with their tfsi engines, failed out of warranty leaving customer with bills of thousands to replace? While it sounds bad, it’s not a new phenomenon, or exclusive to electric drives….

I seen it with every manufacturer - for many reasons over the years.

But these BMW hybrids and full EV's are awfull.... (it is the chain failure of the connecting modules EME/KLE/SME units all at once).

Quite a few ev come with 8 year warranty on battery/drive system, I think in order to try and allay the fear of the unknown - sounds like bmw have fallen behind a bit in what they offer.

I am not sure the failures I am seeing is all to do with design - allot of them are "salvage cars" which have been ran out of "low temp coolant" - by recovery services and body repair centres.

(Low temp coolant being for the seperate circuit for inverter units not the ICE...)

Not every post. But when the usual conspiracy theorists keep posting waffle (particularly when it is obvious that they are then trying to ‘move goalposts’ (new and existing housing estates), then accuse someone else of being an idiot for pointing them out, is a lot like the kettle calling out the pot.

If people stop posting rubbish and it won’t be refuted. That is what conspiracy theories thrive on - lies and more lies. Incorrect facts with no evidence whatsoever. Trying to get their ridiculous claims out there so that others, who know no better, believe them and perpetuate the myths. Some people just hate facing reality and accepting the truth.

If anyone posts some outrageous claim, it should be to uncovered for what it is.

There are issues with no current solution, but which may have be resolved in the future, issues which may never have a solution and issues which don’t actually exist but are perceived to be a problem.

The hard part is working your way through which is which.

Only pickup I've seen (and in fact owned) that seems sensible is the Sandringham 6x6 because you can actually fit a builders bag of sand in the back without being overweight. You can also fit 8x4 sheets flat in the bed without having to have them stick out.

Please don't involve the Sinclair in anything but the Jokes thread. Even Sir Clive refused to drive one at the press launch so I've been told.

From what I remember of the many pages in The Engineer at the time, he was certainly riding one around. He was going to go on to build a whole range of electric cars, etc . . .

Just purchased a 1.5 litre four inch wide necked sports drinking bottle from Tesco for such eventualities @ £ 6.50 .
I now have three such bottles in my car ...managing to fill two in one day .

I've told this tale before - you can buy milk, water, orange juice in plastic gallon containers in the US . . .

Long distance truck drivers get paid by the mile, so they don't want to stop after consuming the contents . . . so refill them on the go.

Now you don't want to be carrying too many gallons of the stuff in-case you make a mistake in selecting which one . . so you chuck 'em out the window into the freeway verges . . .

Along comes maintenance worker, towing many gang mowers in his open to the elements tractor . . .

Apparently, it doesn't mature well in the sunshine

I understand that at the refinery's crackled crude is where it is decided to convert it to diesel , petrol or other refined chemicals it's very variable not a set percentage .

EV ships , EV & electronic blade sail ships and small unit nuclear powered commercial ships are a lot closer to being the norm than you think . The race began about 14 years ago , I gather some are in production & use .
