Isn't the smart meter rollout stalling? I think I read it is just over 50% and of that, something like 10-15% are operating in 'traditional mode'. Aside from the issues with the meters themselves not counting correctly or being incapable of changing supplier, they've tried the 'save you money' (no they don't) coercion and bombarding people with 'pre-booked' appointments, next will come the stick...

The overarching concern I have, is that we are running headlong into a single fuel policy, gas, oil, wood - all 'bad' ways of heating your home or food, only 'clean' electricity should be used, for everything. Its delivered to (mostly) where you need it but it's very difficult and expensive to be totally self-sufficient from the suppliers and government regulation. How long before a foreign state or others with an axe to grind (or even our own eco-loons) decide that taking out a few prime route pylons across the moors will further their cause? Sure, there's some like me that have generator standby facilities, some have solar, but most won't. Reliance on any single source of anything is bad IMO - We're always told a balanced diet, lifestyle etc. etc. is good for you and 'diversity' in everything is how we should approach life. Not fuel it seems.

You should think of electricity as the energy transfer medium, not the energy itself…. The energy comes from nuclear/gas/solar/offshore wind/ground up cow dung/tyres/landfill…..

I'm just not keen on anything that is networked to the extent that usage can be monitored and regulated on an individual basis!

Just read this sad news today.
One poor person killed and several injured.

Race to salvage sinking ship carrying 350 Mercedes and 3,000 vehicles

At least one crew member died and others were injured after fire ripped through the Fremantle Highway, a 18,500-ton car-carrying vessel. Still burning, teams are fighting to stop it from sinking.

What I took from it:

We won't be able to create the infrastructure required for charging, and we won't be able to make enough batteries.

They mentioned the mining and the different components required for the batteries, but failed to mention the amount of destruction and pollution caused by mining for the battery components.

Aside from that and whichever side of the fence you're on, it's worth a watch. The next episode is powering homes and green power.

Sad news for the families and the environment.

It's not the first time, there was something similar last year when a ship travelling from Germany to USA caught fire off the coast of Portugal. The electric cars on boards caught fire, I seem to remember the ship sank a couple of days later,.
Modern batteries are scary when they catch fire, on a ship with hundreds of car batteriy fires feeding each other it would be impossible to put the fires out.
