In January this year i jsut asked around what i could get for £10k in a C3 Corvette. My for ever dream car. The looks and style is amazing to me. Not a speed wagon with 190hp standard for a 5.7l chevy but then thats not what i am bothered about. Although this is thought to have 300hp plus
A chap messaged me about hs Vette that he .doessnt have up for sale but happy you let it go due a health problem he has and unable to carry with his engine mods. So ................ when tnhis is half my budget what can i say but hellll yes please
Its taken this long due to one BIG timewaster to buy ( not buy ) my boat and many many others. It sold yesterday..
So my new project to be here soon. was running and on the strip upto a year half ago.
Needs heads putting back on etc or an even better crate engine fitting Its said to have a300Plus crate engine but i am going to find the specs of the head and cams and see what i can find from them to see what the engine is giving out. As said not botheed anbout massive power or speed just a nice cruising machine.

With it ???/ Had them years waiting and hanging on the mantle piece. Wife is so glad they will be used now. BUT will not come out in public with me wearing them hahaha
I love the Trans Ams and Mustangs, but out of my budget, this was £5.5k so could`nt say no really. And the Vettes are so dam good looking upto end of the C£ era.

That was a day and half,.
Woke at 1am Saturday but wasnt setting off until 5am.
Set off in the bone shaker i borrowed from a mate and his trailer to go get the Vette from Cornwall. My mate came along which i was glad of at the end of the trip. All good going getting down stopped at Smokey Joes for dinner and then time for collection. The chap i got it off was one of them good old honest, decent and.....normal people we rare see these days. Well had t o be to keep it for near 6 months for me.
Honestly i was a little concerrned on the wat down as you could tell the trailers weight was on. but my mate said it will do it easy so all good at first,
It was as good as said and better. over the moon with it. interior is great for 43 years ld. body work a few marks i knew about but also has bubbled. No big deal still, be happy to paint it in the same colour.
wheels are mint which for me is a bonus also.
Then the rip back. I wanted to go visit a cider farm for a few gallons but time was tight so headed home.
Done less than 100 miles and that was it.
Lnady broek done. cut out top of a hill so rolled it down to a layby at the bottom thank god for that bit.
It had overheated unknown to me as gauge didnt go much over usual. plenty of coolant etc as i kept an eye on the levels.
Any my mate thinks the P gasket has gone and maybe bust the first piston. he is not Ped at me as these things happen.
RAC gave us an ETA was 1am, like hell NO.
I called them and told them and said we have Type1 diabetes, which we both have really. so no bull. they sent a driver, who was unable to pull a trailer and he being the only droved for Devon and Cornwall. Worst part was that it was 3pm when it break down and we didnt get home untill 5am this morning. RAC had nobody licenced to tow, so a local sub company was ab le to but only in Exeter. They dragged the rog to Exeter and gave me a Freelander to tow the Vette home and will bring the Landy home this week.
After all that it got home, and the Freelander was bob on and couldnt gtell the trailer an dcar was therre. impressed reeally. Stil wouldnt have a Land rover haha
So now charging the battery as i needed to put the windows up, which forcast said it would be fine weather untill i woke at 7am to hear it peeeeing it down, so slippers on and dressing gown and out to put the cover on it.
Neighbours i reckon think i am even more mental now hahaha
So time for bed soon and dream of driving it soo as i sort the cam set out. All parts ae int he Defender and hope its all here in a couple days so i can see if the old cam and followers etc are ok to reuse maybe, truble is there in no 4order as came out.
End of the weekend, all came together and no big bill to fix the Defneder

it got he Hooker baffles or can use it straight through but that will be a bit much whatat gone 6am for workand i am off to work at 6:30am
My head is battered already with these cam shaft specs my god. What i decided to do for now is wait until the Defender gets back this week as all the parts are in there, Me and the x owner have been chatting and he said there is no reason, i cant put the cam back in but its the lifters as you cant use old lifters with new cam. and the original lifters were not bagged n tagged for order.
ALos i need the head spec so then i can look for a mild cam kit if i go that way.

I do lots with GM V8 motors, I bet many parts from Real Steel, they are not bad on pricing, they normally have lifter in stock.

Okeydoke. what a few weks its been and still not touched ther Vette. Got parts here. An engine service kit and gasket set and also a new set of lifters the other week. No doubt ill need more bits but this is all i caan think o to get the engine back together.
What has been holding me up is the house. I fitted a new bathroom, new floor in the front room. Car searching for SWMBO ( my good wife Tracey ) and i was going to concrete where the garage is going for the Vette but withg the cost and its has been flagged for years why bother. So i need to level and area out and move a few dozen flags about and do so.me concreting.
Also i made some skates for the Vette.
This weekend i plan to put the garage up and get ready to lay power to it from the workshop. By eck my days of digging have waaay gone.
Skates work well. I like to make stuff than buy and these only cost me in castors, about £45 as i had steel here.
So today as i am still waiting for aggregates to arrive i though what the hell ill put it u[.
Didnt take long, eaier than the last one i did, but then i knew what i was going.
I bouhgt a while ago these at a bargain price of £40 for 8 units, think i just use five, two either side and one over te bonnet area. And the small one at the back where ill be fitting a workbench.. I need to wire up to the workshop yet though. more bloody digging.
Only bit i really should of done first is to dig a run off for the rain on the garage as it will run into the inside. I have a few discs here to cut out a channel for the run off and will do it soon enough. Just need to get the vette out so its not full of dust unless i wet cut it. one that before with a large plastic bottle and drill a small hole to let water run into the cut. worked wekll.

At long last its near done. I say near done as i still need to concrete down the rest of the feet of the garage. Ill do it before winter 
Just when you get to the better bits some things get left behind., i know it a fairly important part of 4the garage to do.
For now .i have \wired it up and got full power going. All i need is the tunes and tools and the Vette, happy man This is my destress area now
Compressor is now outside the garage now not in the workshop and waiting for its cupboard. And the tool chest to be set on its cabinet once the castors have arrived for it to move about easier.
I thought to have a faff the other day and see what the brakes looked like, and good but discs need a fettle. Wheels i will [polish up witht he mop kit i have from doing boats. its somewhere int shed...i hope.
I jacked it up in one go on the front for now with a beam across joining the wishbones. i still need to finish the pneumatic lift i am making, unless i buy a lift.
I cleaned the head and manifold bolts up ready the other day aswell.
Looks like liquid thread seal was used. Ill be using it again for the heads as it was used before.
Manifold is in the cleaner as it was manky. Ill stick it in the sand blaster aswell to get it better.
I was sck of using buckets of degreaser so thought to just buy a parts cleaner. So thats soaking now until tomorrow.
I know not a great deal but small steps n all will no be going now for end of this month but soon enough.
To add yesterday i started to ort the engine out. Cleaned parts up, got cam shaft back in but the oiler i had isnt any good to charge the hyd lifters so i have ordered a new one for today.
Cleaned all holes out and scrubbed again the faces.
ONE good point is when doing this is to be careful not to let the tap fall out the wrench, well just tighten it up enough as if it does and you go to fvar through it COULD drop into the engine. Now you dont wnat that. On the engine the head bolts going into the water ways.
Hard to get some.soni used the flexi extension.
And a new battery, was finind it difficult to get the exact battery i wanted to went for a european style and got new terminals.

Previous owner removed the heads etc to fit new ones for more power. He fell ill and wife did then so it won't get finished.
Fully insured lol.

That's a great looking set up you've created there. Only thing I would do different is mount the lighting lower down the sidewalls. You rarely need light directly overhead (unless you're polishing the roof) and you'll benefit from having better light both inside the car and in/around wheels/suspension etc. Similarly, If you are leaving the bonnet on then perhaps mount that overhead one across the front entrance?

I was going to have them lights about a meter off the floor but to bright fo my eyes. there bad enough up there. Not good with bright light.
ANYWAY BLOODY WAY
Just fitting the heads on tonight and got one fitted and one of the bolts was splipping at 40lb and now its stripped so engine is coming out for a Helicoil and full clean down now and if i ant work out what soec it is with the parts it has fitted. It could be 290hp. I will spec it up more4 anyway with new heads/cam etc
Mite do the suspension rebuild now as it needs new bushes etc.
Not what i wanted to do as i was after getting it running then go from there. Ah well Just my luck
