I have a nice mount for it too.
I was wondering is it worth drilling a hole or 2 into the saddle to take the anti dodah pin

so long as its onlt the weight of the rifle on the scope it shouldnt be a problem. An old sheep skin makes a good pillow

Set up a plumb line hanging from a tree etc and hold the rifle plumb then line up the crosshair by rotating the scope.

As said you need to turn that sight 90° clockwise so that the elevation turret is at the top and windage is on the right hand side.

Have you set the sight in the correct position for eye relief? looks quite far back to me.

Also you'll be wanting to remove your rear iron sight i would think. Have you got a fuzzy/shaded area when you look through the sight?

Sight is perfect for eye relief. I thought it was quite far back but it's perfect I'll turn them tomorrow before I set them up. I wound the iron sight down no sight of them through the sights anyway

A springer, especially some of the cheaper options, will have more recoil than a .22lr. It will have two elements to the recoil, the first as the spring and piston go forward and the scecond, much sharper one as the piston stops dead as it hits the end of the cylinder. It's likely the second one is whats causing your scope to shift. As others have stated, those mounts aren't up to the job. I'm not familier with your rifle or the scope but if the dovetails are a standard size and the scope a standard diameter, a good enough pair of double screw mounts can be had for well under a tenner.

Sounds like you need a better scope designed for centrefire.

Actually it is only recently that centrefire scopes have been designed to cope with the double recoil (as described above) of a spring airgun, they really were scope killers.

the scope is narrow actually, only .75" most mounts I can find are for 1" scopes

That is a very old scope and if anyone came in looking for mounts I don't think I could help them, any amount of arrestor blocks aren't going to fix the problem.

Ahhh, slow on the uptake I was.... anyhow it looks like the situation is resolved, those early Nikkon scopes are excellent quality.

She's done it a few times at various Scout meets and really enjoyed it.

Do it. I had loads of fun with mine as a kid in the back garden with my dad and on my own.

Ditto.. I'd certainly encourage kids to have a go, nice to get them doing good old fashioned outdoor stuff that doesn't involve a mobile phone!
As regards telescopic sights, I have to say I never got on with them and prefer just open sights, tho I do still have a scar on the eyebrow where I got clouted by a scope when the gun recoiled
