Ditto.. I'd certainly encourage kids to have a go, nice to get them doing good old fashioned outdoor stuff that doesn't involve a mobile phone!
As regards telescopic sights, I have to say I never got on with them and prefer just open sights, tho I do still have a scar on the eyebrow where I got clouted by a scope when the gun recoiled
I learnt to shoot with open sights. Still dot occasionally now but much prefer looking through a scope. Using open sights to start with, I think, makes you a better shot. My kids all started with open sights, my youngest will now out shoot me with the 243.
I have scoped myself 2 or 3 times with the 270, it hurts! Daughter did it too with a BSA Lightning, don’t think she’s shot since
