Air rifle telescopic sights

Ditto.. I'd certainly encourage kids to have a go, nice to get them doing good old fashioned outdoor stuff that doesn't involve a mobile phone!
As regards telescopic sights, I have to say I never got on with them and prefer just open sights, tho I do still have a scar on the eyebrow where I got clouted by a scope when the gun recoiled

I learnt to shoot with open sights. Still dot occasionally now but much prefer looking through a scope. Using open sights to start with, I think, makes you a better shot. My kids all started with open sights, my youngest will now out shoot me with the 243.

I have scoped myself 2 or 3 times with the 270, it hurts! Daughter did it too with a BSA Lightning, don’t think she’s shot since

I cut mt teeth with a .303 open sights and a thousand yards at Hythe Ranges ,, lot to be said for the simple things in life.
Its still nice to look through a nice piece of glass though .
I always reckon that if you can shoot a spring powered air gun with open sights well , you can shoot anything.

I use to love shooting the 303 even being target man behind the hill wad fun

Watched a guy from Blackpool going through his 2nd hand stock and they were anywhere from £400 upwards?.

This talk of scopes reminds me of a time in the 80's, we were on the flat roof of the the shooting club doing a bit of maintenance when the club secretary (wry sense of humour) made the comment that Saltley gas works would be an easy shot from here with iron sights the day Arthur Scargill was there rallying the pickets

On my .22 Original 45 (a powerful springer that's got an uprated spring), I had problems with the scope/mounts moving. This from day one, before I put the new (Ox?) spring in.

I replaced the countersunk screws in the dovetail rail with cap head screws so there were little, round, "towers" sticking up. I started with a two piece scope mount, tried a one piece, then went back to the two piece.

The rear mount can't move any further back than the cap head screw.

The scope can't move any further back than the mount.

I'd show you but the gun is in bits awaiting me taking the plunge to have it professionally re-blued.

Found a picture of the gun pre stripping. You can just see the 3 cap head screws sticking above the scope rail. You'll note the rear mount abuts the rear screw. Then how the scope itself abuts the other side of the rear mount. Zero movement and the sights remain set.

scope is now rotated 90 degrees and straight ready to be zereoed in now.

Smk victory pcp very cheap and you can get it as a kit rifle bag scope etc they get good reviews , It was what I was going to buy before I was offered the bsa . Speak to @northwest

Actually it is only recently that centrefire scopes have been designed to cope with the double recoil (as described above) of a spring airgun, they really were scope killers.

I was given a Relum underlever in .22 you could not keep a scope on it. within a handful of shots it would fall off. Pig heavy as well. hated the thing.

Fantastic Air Rifle, very underrated. Over shadowed by the HW35 (heavy and noisy but accurate) and the Feinwerkbau. I lusted after both, until I picked up the 45.
Amazing consistant grouping throughout its capable range. Should have never sold it.

I bought a Theoben Rapid 7 about 25yrs ago.
PCPs are the equalant to Water Cooled TIG torches. Once you have used one, you never want to go back.

Just looked they only made them from 79-81. I bought mine from Mick Bulmers Gunshop in York. He was a good friend of my dad. So got pretty much everything at trade. I bought a Sharp Invona at the same time for 18quid.
