Air Tool Woes

If you have never opened the valve, I suggest you take it out side. It will mote than likely be rusted up, you might need a take the tap out and poke a hole throught the rust, make sure the pressure has been released from the tank.

Let it run for a bit on the grass, it will blow loads more crap out after the water has drained out. Clean the tap and refit

Make sure you have released all the pressure before you open it though

last time I drained my tank under pressure I got a face full of white oily water . opened the tap and nothing came out then there was a pop and the full lot came out so now just open it empty. if nowt comes out I prick the tap with a bit of wire to check then turn the comp on and blow it out

Wasn't till I got it home I found the drain was blocked and I got a lot of water out, it took about half an hour to empty!!! I reckon it had at least 50 litres in it.....

Hee hee, you certainly have to be careful, if there is too much pressure and you miss judge it that drain plug can go off like a bullet. I can't bend like I used to so I tip the comp. onto one end so I can reach the plug, I have had it fly across the workshop a couple of times

He probably sold it to you because he thought it was going tits up and knew nothing about the receiver filling with water.

Don't worry Parm, you'll figure it out, all the info you need is on this forum and if you can't find it just ask. Make sure you put a drop of airline oil in the tool each time you use it as well or it will soon fail.

ive been using a thorite air compressor 3hp i think its this one but could be the 100 litre version

ive also got to try out the air needle gun with a better cfm rated compressor rated at 14cfm with a good rate of flow it took 6 -7 refills of the compressor just to get one panel clean but it wasnt clean grinder does a better job in less time

on using the needle gun i noted that the gun lost half pressure and drained the air really quickly gun didnt seem to have enough bang for its buck still did the work but i just let the compressor catch up before continuing

ive used it now with many tools grinder included and air gun paint spraying and underseal spraying

its good but it does loose its oomph soon after you start it, its also not mine so i wont abuse it not even when im told to do as i do let it catch up

but after a while it does heat up in its tank which is to be expected if your heavy using it

There's no way I'm gonna give you an opportunity to chuckle at me.

Dads over this weekend and he said that they friend the big comp in the factory every week. Now the issue is why he didn't share this knowledge with me !!!!

Parents are excellent but they can't be relied upon to share anything usefull

Am I better off building a bigger reservoir setup ?

I doubt if it would help you, initially it would take longer before the compressor cut in, but then it would take longer to build up pressures again. You've only got the same compressor output to play with.

3hp at 50L you could use a 47kg cylinder as extra capacity it would take twice as long to fill maybe more but also twice as long to empty

He's fast asleep now and in not far behind him

What I meant to say was that he emptied comp a factory he had every week, but ..... Failed to tell me comp needs to be drained regularly

You can rely on parents ..........
