Aldi 40v Grinder..

Bought 3 of these (£20 each for bare tool!), one had cutting disk on and one had a wire twisted knot wheel on today.

The cutting disk one after a days graft still had 3 out of 3 bars on battery and the knot wheel 2 bars (grinding god awful VW seem sealer).

Managed to buy a few batteries at £20 a piece.

I was expecting a pretty poor tool but they are bloomin brilliant!.

Only criticism is the slide and push power button but plenty of Grinders have the same, I prefer a trigger.

All in all I can't believe they can make a tool for this price and ideal if you don't want to drag 240v extensions lead here there and everywhere!.

Doing well to get the batteries for £20 all I have seen is they have gone up a quid or two from the £25 ish they were. Only time I've seen the grinders for £20 was two empty boxes ! Another shelf had them at full price.

They run at 8,500 rpm, which is fast for a cordless 5" grinder, but unfortunately they do not have variable speed.

Perhaps they are clearing out the 20/40v brushed tools to make way for an all-brushless range.

I have the Lidl Parkside "20v Team" tools, but I agree that for anyone already into Aldi's Ferex range ( such as @8ob ), or looking to start on low-end cordless tools, these price reductions make it a no-brainer, and being sold on-line, you don't even have to fight your way to the front of an 8am Lidl queue.

It was a no brainer for me £20 a Grinder, £20 a battery and no faffing around changing from cutting, wire cup, sanding mop disks, 1 Grinder one accessory!.

Genuinely impressed, no bother chopping through 3mm thick steel.

So a £9.99 impact driver has just cost me £59.96 ! It's just as bad as dropping into the store for a bottle of milk and coming out with a welder In the end opted for the impact driver with battery, a charger and the small compressor - which will save me firing up the big compressor just to blow up tyres.

I’ve just bought one. Got the batteries already. It’s cheap enough I can keep it in my work pickup and use it as a universal gate key

I liked them as they work with the 20/40 batteries.
But you need to be wary as they have 3 types. Some don't fit the 20/40.

The newer grey coloured Ferrex gear is heavy duty compared to the earlier offerings, I bought all the original 20/40 gear to chuck in the truck and thats stood the test of time. Grabbed some of the grey tools for in the workshop, when I unboxed them the difference is clear.

Thanks,just bought 4 grinders,1 impact,2 chargers and 4 batteries,phew,took 1.75 hours,Aldi helpline answered quick,but checkout wanted pin sentry??? Staff never been stumped by that before,had to trawl through 2 more cards before my debit card,which was the one that allowed payment,I guess the other two were too secure.

whats the charge time?

It's a 5ah battery and mines a 4 amp charger, takes about 2 hours iirc (technically should be less).

I've had mine on the go all day and still some battery left, amazing really!.

I bought the 20v version when it price dropped in the shop. Don’t understand why it’s so skinny but it’s better for me as a lot of the time I use it single had for sensitive jobs which I wouobe able to with the 40v one. Impressive tool but switch isn’t best designed.

What’s everyone getting user time from the 40v angle grinders on metal?

I’ve also got a Einhell thin bodied grinder on 4amh battery but it’s been a faulty pile of ****e although it needs a push start. It’s not a patch on the Aldi one. It only lasts minutes
