Aldi 40v Grinder..

What’s everyone getting user time from the 40v angle grinders on metal?

I’ve also got a Einhell thin bodied grinder on 4amh battery but it’s been a faulty pile of ****e although it needs a push start. It’s not a patch on the Aldi one. It only lasts minutes

The grinders are not in the same league as all the brand names, you cant lean on them. Great with light use on thin discs and flap wheels, not so clever with grinding discs, there is a thermal cut out on them. I rate this kit for occasional use, that said the drill and impact driver have had some serious use and not failed. The only Ferrex failures I have had were with the 20v multi tool and a gurt hoover for the workshop, both went bang within five minutes. Top tip, keep the receipts handy

Though it's been close reading this thread I've managed to resist temptation! Even though I could have likely printed Makita to Ferrex battery adaptors.

I'll be sticking with my two, one blue, one orange, Fakita clones. Thin handles and lightweight.

I've had a good hour at removing VW underseal with one on a knot wheel, still had charge left in it.

Another one was used for chopping 1mm steel sheet for some panels and works well.

They aren't as fast as a 240v too but to be honest I preferred that with the 1mm cutting disk fitted, less dangerous!.

I wasn't expecting much from these (40v version) but they have more than proved themselves.

Not had a cut out yet either, but only been up to 3mm steel so far.

Personally I don't like the chunky ones.

My first cordless was this 18V NiCad Rolson one and very thick to hold. Converted to Makita 18V it initially was great and very grunty. I gave it some serious abuse then it let out the magic smoke and I've not looked at it since. Guess I ran it for too long? Little video clip:

Receipts Ah yes I have a date policy, I always date any Aldi/Lidl tool and battery with a marker so when it does go bang I can work out it’s age or refer straight to my filing cabinet for its paperwork. Time is money! I also have 2-3 of everything as I’ve learnt

Your use might sound similar to mine. I opted for the thin bodied for two reasons, my work is delicate and I like a slower grinder and also the calculations 40v= 2.5amh and in my case 20v= 5amh so was hoping for a longer duration at half the volts! Whether that’s true I’m yet to find out.

As @8ob says you can’t lean on these tools which I agree but I’ve found mainstream makes like dewalt and the like don’t seem to cater enough for more ‘technical’ jobs. I’ve had a lot of minimum wattage from dewalt and it’s still like sending a torpedo though a village when I need an accurate bullet!!

I have probably painted a bad picture of them with my statement, I do find them perfectly useable and battery life is very good, especially with the 20/40v batteries when using them on the 20v tooling. Greediest on the batteries are the grinders and the chainsaw, the 20v drills and drivers last forever on a charge. Not used the 20v batteries.

Top tip, keep the receipts handy

Though I've still not put the app on a phone, when I bought the Parkside nibblers the other day, the till guy said if you get the Lidl Plus app it stores your receipts.

That’s good to know about Lidl since I’ve just bought a long 4m lead with a heat gun attached to it!

I've got the Lidl Parkside Multi Tool 20v and as hard as I try I can't kill it off!.

I think these Brushed Angle Grinders will be less likely to stall out over the Brushless as they have more protection circuitry.

Will see how they fair over time but not having to car the extension lead around for every job is a godsend.

I have my Milwaukee M12 cut-off tool for detailed work (variable trigger) so these 40v Grinders were bought to be rough and ready!.

I’m quite happy with the ferrex batteries as I’ve four and two chargers. I’m lead to believe they are Samsung internals from a post on here yonks ago

I have one and my workshop is offgrid and run on a generator so it's handy for a quick grind or cut but they are heavy on the vibration and I wouldn't want to use it for long periods.
